Fear I’ll be restarting c25k

Well with the lockdown and being a single mum with little ones at home, I’ve only ran once in a fortnight. Their dad is due to have them tomorrow possibly for a couple of days so I might get out a run or two.

We’ve had our daily long but slow walk (kids r only 4&2) so doesn’t really get the heart rate up. I’m dreading trying to run but have decided I will go out for as long as I feel comfortable (within reason obviously due to lockdown) but if I need to walk/run then so be it.

10K seems a long way off now cos I’m not that sure I could run a full 5k right now. Sorry, I know there’s more important things going on in the world, just having a wee vent (since I can’t have this convo with the kids 🤣)

Hope everyone is staying safe 😊

Don’t worry. I seen a video of a guy in Spain running lengths of his balcony. Even if you run 2K, take a small break, run 2K, small break and then finish with a slightly faster 1K, you will have done 5K. It might not be a full 5K without stopping, but it’s still 5K. This is such a weird time for everyone. I’m free to run 5K anytime now as I’m working from home but I’m losing motivation without parkrun.

I did consider running round my garden but unfortunately it’s quite wet at the moment so I think after a few laps I’d be at more risk of slipping and injuring myself! I’m just gonna see how I get on... no pressure on myself (well that’s the theory 😬)

Ah yes u like ur parkruns. I noticed u had a great run today so hopefully that’s helped give u a bit of a motivational boost!!

Don't dread it just go out and have an enjoyable run , no matter the distance😊

CJ get that vent out in the in open, better out than in.... 💭🗯️💬.

The old run walk method hey if that's what it is so be it, no great shame it that! I believe it's actually gotta name referred to as jeffing

So with that we look forward to your next posting, not about your run but about your day date with Jeff 👍.

NB I dunno think you'll be back at square one, that stamina you've gained will still be there especially running around after the boys, it may be tad dusty but a couple or three runs you'll be nailing your 5ks once more 🙂

Don't time it or go for distance, just go out and do your best, it's tricky these days to plan things..

I hope you enjoy it, stay safe.

You won’t have to go back to the start. Is there other cardio you can do?

Skipping is good for keeping the fitness up. Stairs are good for strength.

Must be frustrating but it will pass and you will be able to go out again even if you have to backwards a little bit, take care 😊

Just take it slowly and don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Any run is still a run. 😁🤗

Aww don’t worry CJM, any run is a good run, so just do what you can. 10k will wait for you. It’s going nowhere.

For now, have fun and stay well and safe. 😀

Sorry to hear that your frustrated, but vent away.....it’s better out than in, and the people here are so supportive.

I’ll know I’ll definitely have to do C25K again as I’m high risk and advised not to go out at all for 12 weeks. On the plus side it may give my Achilles a chance to heal properly 😄

Bet it’s really frustrating. But be kind to yourself, just get out when you can, and enjoy it - that bit of freedom is all the more precious just now!

Do what you feel comfy with CJMumma - you’ve a lot to contend with at the moment ! The fact you’re even thinking about going for a run is pretty good going I reckon!

Huge backpat (at a social distance). You are a mum, you are probably also being a teacher and entertainer under the current conditions. You've got extra cooking and cleaning with the kids home. And you still manage to exercise at all, even getting some running in! Superwoman!!

I agree with triwoman. Superwoman! 💪 You’ve got alot on your plate right now. So when the opportunities arise maybe slip out and run a short distance to your own feel to test the waters. If its feeling good, go for it, otherwise just listen to your body and ease up. No pressure.

Thanks everyone for ur lovely comments. I did manage to get out for a short run today. Just and out and back and wow it was tough! It’s been blowing a hoolie up in the far north of Scotland and we’ve had snow/sleet showers on and off today. Really wasn’t wanting to run at all but I did it and even managed a PR! Bit breathless due to feeling unfit and carrying a few extra pounds 🐷

Keep going you, I've not been able to fit a run in in nearly 3 weeks with kids off and changing all my shifts to nights so can look after them. We have done our walk most day I try at least 3-4km with them that's about it before they refuse to move any further. I figured i may have to re do part off c25k again to get back into it. I am going to try my best and get back into it as would do my stress and anxiety levels the world of good dealing with this. Stay safe you 😘😘

Oh my gosh, I’m so pleased to hear from u! I have been thinking about u lately with u being a nurse and having to deal with covid-19! I’ve been out walking too, I’ve been posting them on strava so it looks like I’m actually doing something lol. I’m feeling really anxious lately so I dread to think how u feel hun! Absolutely appreciate all of u amazing hero’s, ur just incredible.... stay safe and pick up the running again when things settle down. Lots of love 💕 x
