'Corona Quest' for April...

Hello you lovely people...I sincerely hope that all of you are fit and well and not suffering, apart from the self-isolation, from the effects of this terrible virus that has got the world in its hands..

What a strange world we are living in at the moment, it just goes to show how much we take for granted our freedom...our friends and family...the outdoors...and life...I hope we all learn something from the strange journey this virus is taking us on...

Thank you so much for all your posts during this time of self-isolation, you have really kept me motivated, I know I haven't posted for what seems like YONKS but reading your posts always makes me smile and rather than thinking of this time as self-isolation I am changing my mind set, I'm not going to think of it as keeping myself to myself, I'm going to think of it as self-indulgence..I am indulging on being at home with my children, being at home with my Hubby, running outdoors, on my own, enjoying the outside space with no interruptions and knowing that life, when this is all over, will never be like this ever again...

So, on with this months quest. I have called it the 'Corona Quest' because this is what we are up against and we have to find time, energy, mojo and enthusiasm more than ever to keep running so this months quest is an important one and it's my privilege to take this as my job this month.

I know some of you may not be able to go outside for different reasons so with you in mind...and my Children, I am thinking of it as this months P.E lessons, they can be done indoors as well as out doors and if you have children at home with you you could possibly get them to join in!!!?? Another idea that popped into my head is that if you usually run with a friend, why don't you facetime them on your warm up walk, that way you're staying in touch and motivating each other at the same time?!

So what is the quest?? I am sure most of you are familiar with it by now but for those of you who aren't....

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.

I ask that you are a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:

★ To run three times a week

★ To slowly increase distance

★ To train for a specific race

★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine

This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like:

I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I want to ..............

Every week of April I will put up a new post and we can all chat about how we are doing. It’s going to be awesome!!! 😃

I have read one post this morning that has made me get this post done early so damienair you are first on my list...COME ON!!! We can do this...I have faith in all of you, lets see this as an opportunity to make the most of our current situation...Stay safe, stay at home, except for your exercise and trip to pick up essentials etc...and protect our fantastic NHS!!!! (I'm starting to sound like Bozza!!!) and like my little spring lamb in the picture, run with a smile on your face xx

Thinking of you all

I'm in too please MC🖐...

My Quest is to continue to practice yoga and my physio exercises every day. It's not hard, I look forward to it....

I now have to wait until Mr BBr has done the Joe Wicks P.E. session as he is using my Yoga mat!

You tube on the T.V screen is much nicer than trying to squint at a laptop on the floor which I was doing until a few days ago!😆

Stay safe everyone 🌷xxx

I got all excited there for a minute. Corona Quest, I thought it was a beer related challenge 🍺.

Mummycav please add me to the Quest. I need this to stay motivated. My Quest for the month of April is to run 5K everyday for the month and to continue to grow my new 2.5 week old Covid-19 Beard. On the 1st of May I will have a rest day and a shave.

Run 1 done ✅ Felt great 👍

I love the quests but don’t like to have to think i’ve got to keep something up, so this month my quest is to walk when i can’t run and walk to work, my car is no longer use able but i can take Willows, so i don’t have to walk to work but it’s good for me 😀

And take pictures because the world is a beautiful place

Ultimately I would like to get back to running three times a week by the end of the month! Lots of things have conspired against that lately but hoping for better this month so I will go for it 😁

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to alisonr54

Getting back to 3 times a week sounds like a good goal...but even if it’s twice a week with the way things are at the moment would be good too...life does take over sometimes though but getting a routine always helps. You’re on my list alisonr54 😉

Fantastic post.....thank you! Count me in....can’t fit running in and getting the kids out in the fresh air so I’m committing to Joe Wicks PE everyday with my youngest, 30 min walk with my eldest and 30 mins yoga every day on my own and hoping it helps me get back to running without losing too much progress when I can.

MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Sparkey5000

That sounds great Sparkey5000 ...I love that you too are getting the kids to do their P.E lessons!! I tried to make a timetable for my three but sticking to it is proving difficult!! They still think they're on an extended school holiday!! you're on my list Sparkey x

I like the idea of a 'self indulgent' mindset other than the negative 'I' word! I need to keep positive, run 2-3 times a week & keep up the online yoga & Pilates classes (normally in a village hall) so please count me in!

Keep well x

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Slinkymalinki

Thank you Slinkymalinki , it's good to try and see the positives isn't it? Making the most of this time at home with my little family is definitely a positive...it is for all of us x

You are my list with those amazing goals of yours xx

Slinkymalinki profile image
SlinkymalinkiGraduate10 in reply to Mummycav

And we'll meet those goals with this wonderfully supportive community! Thinking about the self-indulgence goals, I've just made myself a well-being/indulgence list. It includes amongst many other things: finding time to be creative, read, regularly meditate, walk, watch films/ box sets with family, play more games/do puzzles, keep up with friends via What's App tea & cake meets - started last week, it's great fun! I think giving oneself permission to do these things is really important & I realise I've not been doing this for some time. Change is afoot.....🙂

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Slinkymalinki

Brilliant Slinkymalinki ...they sound like lovely things to be doing...I know this is nothing to do with running but one of my self-indulgences is to improve my saxophone playing...I love my sax but I never find the time to play it much...playing games with the kids is fun, we usually play a couple of games on a Saturday but last night we had a game of trivial pursuit and tonight they've planned a few more games for over the weekend! And we have movie nights most Fridays and Sundays, no doubt there'll be more of those too! My Hubby is currently sorting his extra large shed out and prepping the garden for Summer, we will have the best garden in Yorkshire at this rate!!! Lots of good things can come from this Slink xx

Slinkymalinki profile image
SlinkymalinkiGraduate10 in reply to Mummycav

Absolutely! Definitely get your sax out! I play clarinet but not enough (learnt tenor sax years ago but couldn't afford one at the time). If I'm practising for a group, I keep it built up on a stand otherwise the faff factor in getting it out & assembling it leads to no practice!🎷🎶😁

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Slinkymalinki

🤣🤣 mine is on the stand now too, I know what you mean about the faff!! I also play trombone, now there’s a faff!!! Lol x

Love that little baa lamb Mummycav. I didn’t take part in the quest last month but am still running 3 times a week, planking and have started yoga. Have had a bit of a wobble of late but today read about this young woman who lived on Raoul Island in the Kermadecs for 6 months who said I look on this (isolation) as “an adventure, something new, a new experience and challenge and taking joy in little things each day really does help” so lockdown is only a few weeks right? we can do this. X

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to lexi6

Oh I love the little lambs too lexi6 ...I've missed driving passed the fields and seeing the new born lambs springing about, I usually take the kids passed and we park up and watch them for while. I hope we can help you get over your little wobble but I like the idea of that Woman on the island...we can all look at our current situation with different eyes, some good has got to come out of this, even if it's only that we appreciate things more...and each other. This time next year we will be talking about this and our childrens children will be learning about it in their history lessons!!! Lets give them loads of positives to talk about??!! You are on my list my friend xxx

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Kevin41

That sounds like a plan Kevin41 ...I haven't run a 10k for a while now and I'm on week 8 of of a garmin 10k plan and tomorrow is run 3...50 minutes with an optional 10 minutes before the 5 minute cool down so maybe tomorrow might be a 10k for me??? I hope theres a bit of a wind to blow me along a bit!! When I saw it was 50 minutes I had that feeling that you get when you see the C25k W5R3 20 minute run!! gulp!

GoogleMe profile image
GoogleMeGraduate10

My, it's a real challenge this month isn't it? I'd like to accept it too please Mummycav .

I'm upping my yoga target a little to 18 days.

Also hoping to continue with my revisiting of C25K. I may not be able to leave the premises (my health condition meets narrow 'from the house' footways meets trauma-damaged local police) and my garden is not a safe place to run and wouldn't fancy my chances in a race for evacuation to hospital against one from Curbar Edge, ahem, ahem. I did however do W4R3 in my kitchen/utility room (less than 20 paces). Not sure my body can deal with it regularly (hard surface, tight turns) but mentally it was much easier than expected.

So we'll see. Think I may need a cardio focussed Plan B. Or for this Quest to be one of those 'emergent goals'

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to GoogleMe

Ooo GoogleMe , you sounds to have a right challenge on your hands there...be extra careful and do as much as you can...yoga sounds like a perfect option for you x

Thank you for organising this, especially when so many of us are affected by the crisis on many levels. I would like to join in with the Quest as well. In face of such difficulties, I would like to aim to run at least 3 times a week.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Achy4days

3 times a week sounds just perfect Achy4days ...we need to get out into the open air as much as possible to curb any feelings of entrapment! We are all in this together, keep us up to date with how it’s going x

Hi MC, missed your post somehow until now …...

Count me in please, especially as I've already achieved one of my monthly targets, to deliver a respectable 10k - 53'12 on 3rd April :-) . The target of going further each month on the gym treadmill at 13 kph (4'36" pace) is obviously in abeyance, so that gets replaced with Roseabi's Speed Challenge (on the Marathon forum :-( ) requiring a quick 1k every week, and I'll also be trying to maintain 12 kph (5'00" pace) outside for longer - managed 7k last month.

All will be made more interesting, as runs on Southsea prom increasingly resemble a slalom as we all try to weave past one another maintaining a 2m separation :-)

Thanks for the challenge. Onwards and upwards!!

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to UpTheStanley

Hi UpTheStanley ...10k in 53 minutes is absolutely fantastic and you should be very proud of yourself for that!!! I did see Roseabi's 1k speed challenge but dodged that one!!! Maintaining the 2m separation does prove difficult some days...I have to stop a lot to let people passed me so that messes with my stats but rather that than break the rules!! Well done for your achievements so far x

Kevin41 profile image
Kevin41Graduate10

So, today I felt good, slowed down a bit and went the extra distance from my usual 8k to 10k. Really glad I did it. It was tougher than I expected and I think my next couple of runs will be 5k to compensate but knowing i can make the distance is a great feeling. Completed my Quest a little earlier than expected but I think I’ll challenge myself to do it once in May too.

I hope everyone else is doing well with their goals also

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Kevin41

Hi Kevin41 ...this is brilliant to hear...I know what you mean too by finding it hard but actually knowing that you have and still can achieve this distance...every now and again I just churn out a 10k...not that often but hen I do it makes me feel on top of the world and cements the fact that I am really a runner!!

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10

I don't think I actually put my goal on here, although I have mentioned it in separate posts.

Today I reached my target of 100 days of 10,000 steps.

I am still running 3 times a week, usually 6k but sometimes a bit more. That is because a 6k run plus warm up/cool down walks guarantees me 10000 steps

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to RunaroundSue

That sounds brilliant RunaroundSue ...10,000 steps per day for 100 days is AMAZING!!! Well done to you for that! I join a challenge every week with a VRB on Garmin to see who can do the most steps per week and I must admit that that keeps me active...and brings out my competitive side that I didn't know I had!!!

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply to Mummycav

Well, I will keep going. We go for a run or walk every day, so it is not too hard to achieve

Runnf profile image
RunnfGraduate10

Lovely to read all these posts, thank you. I've been on the IC for a while & reading here was my virtual 'exercise'!

I started running again this week, ran 3 times, each adding a little time on. My quest is to run every other day & creep back to 30 mins, then do 3 x 30 a week.

My usual route is beautifully flat - but a little narrow in places & has become saturated with other runners since lockdown. So I'm getting up super early & taking an up-and-down-y but wide-and-quiet route instead. Bonus quest: to be able to run *all* the up bits, as my fitness improves 😊.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Runnf

That sounds like a really good thing to aim for Runnf and sounds like consolidation time all over again, which just cements your ability. I must agree with you on the other runners, there are far more about at the moment so maybe they're all normally at work during the day and are enjoying this new found daytime?!! The weather has been particularly gorgeous and has brought out many people but we have to remember the rules at the moment don't we...it won't be forever though right?? Happy running to you

alisonr54 profile image

Feeling good today! I’m getting back into the swing of things now. Got a bit carried away this afternoon and managed a full 60 minutes running which was a bonus. I’m enjoying finding my rhythm and not worrying about the pace which has been a problem before. I have been really bad at starting too fast and running out of steam! I just have to keep it steady.

Hope everyone has had a good day 😁

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to alisonr54

Wow, well done alisonr54 ...running for 60 minutes takes some doing!!! Starting too fast is one of the most common mistakes we are all guilty of...I am still on my Garmin 10k plan and have just started week10 and have only just made myself slow down...I had a great run last week and ran for 60 minutes or thereabouts which I was really pleased about...running slower means you can run further...no worries about pace, its all about enjoying your run...well done x

Hi MC,

Just wanted to put on record that for the third day now since Nov. 25th I have no pain in the arch under my foot!

Not able to see my physio at the moment, but I may well be ringing for a chat with her if this continues...

Now to build on this...

This is music to my ears Bluebirdrunner ...what fantastic news!!! I have missed a weeks post of the quest so I am just going to do a new one for this week...these strange times are sending my days all over the place!!!

Speedy60 profile image
Speedy60Graduate10

🙋‍♀️

I had to give up on last month's quest because I felt running up and down the same hill several times in an hour wasn't very socialably responsible, especially as I have to drive to get there.

So, restricted to running on the flat, but blessed to be running at all, I'd like to run three times a week, concentrate on my form, keep my hips in good shape and possibly increase my speed - which means keeping my weight in check. 🥴

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Speedy60

Hi Speedy60 ...I too have changed my run...I sometimes drove to different places to mix up my runs but then realised that I was breaking the rules...it's also a bit crowded on the towpath so I seem to stop/start some days but, like you say, we are still out there doing our bit...and still running...you are doing well so just keep plugging away...we're all right behind you x

Hi Mummycav - think I’m going to have to withdraw from Corona Quest. I had lost my confidence and have gone back to W6 of C25k. Just did 2nd run of the week and it felt good. So I’m just going to concentrate on being able to run for 30 mins again before I try to run further. These strange times messed with my head but they won’t beat me. Good luck everyone on the quest - you can do it x

Mummycav profile image

Hi Mands50 , that is absolutely no problem at all...sometimes our confidence takes a knock and it can be just one little thing, it happens to us all....do you know what has brought this on? At least we have C25k to fall back on and that can cement our abilities when we have a good run like you have..you can join in again anytime or you can just plod on in your own time...hugs to you, these are very strange times...and we’re always here to cheer you on x
