Day 7 or is it 6 or even 8? Garden immaculate, new pendant lights fitted after being in boxes for 6 months, Bedroom furniture tops re- sanded and varnished, all shower chrome now gleaming, all relatives around the work skyped, 7k run in the showers completed...… you get the picture. You probably all have similar tales to tell. Now what do I do? Of course I can pick up the guitar and try again, learn Spanish, write that book that is in us all.... but I just really want parkrun back.
So much so I have taken to setting it down in a song. Trouble is I can't write music so I have borrowed one from a well known 60s figure by the name of Zimmerman. Love you Bob.
The paths are quiet now, walkers can get past
No marshals waving, urging you to go fast
Yonder stands the start line in the morning sun
It just makes you want to run
There is no parkrun to make me smile
It’s all over now, for a while
The woodland trail is now just for amblers, it don’t make sense
That’s where I speed up, by that fence
The parking spaces in the near empty street
Just show the desolation is complete
My only thought on this last lonely mile
Is it’s all over now, for a while
