Where do I start. I got my Garmin FR 245M back in May last year, since then no matter what I do this reading has gone down it started at 42 and dropped to 39 and stayed at that level for months, that is until I've started the Garmin coach half marathon plan. In 2 weeks it's gone up a point each week so now I'm on 41 and apparently now have a fitness age of 42! Well chuffed
Anyone know how or why it's now changing? Or should I really care?

I generally ignore this reading but it seems if you do a longer run at a previous pace it goes up and vice versa. Enjoying the run is far more important than achieving a number. Happy running 🤗
A watch cannot really assess your VO2max as its all about lung capacity. I look at it for trends and amusement but I would certainly not worry about it.
That said, upping v02max is relatively complicated... maybe the balance of your plan is suiting you better than what you were doing previously.
If the new plan has you slowing down, then you’ll be developing capillaries and mitochondria in your muscles to use the oxygen that you’re heart and lungs are pumping to them. This is covered here mensrunninguk.co.uk/top-fea...
This might not make sense but my vo2max decreased when i did a steep hill walk and my fitness age is now 71 but i think if i do some faster runs on the flattish route it will go up again and my fitness age will go down 😀
It goes up when you run fast and down when you run slow even if it's a long run. I think it's very inaccurate. I'm now faster than last year yet my VO2 max is 3 points lower 🤷🏽♀️ I did a 17 mile trail with 1000ft ascent and it dropped 2. I can run fast one mile and make it go up. Load of rubbish. It can only really be measured with a mask on a treadmill by medics.
