Phew, last night was one of the hardest runs I have ever done. I’m not feeling 100% at the moment, i can feel soreness threatening my throat, I’ve had a couple of nosebleeds too which is unusual for me , having 3 kids means it’s usually me mopping them up!! I am a bit sniffy too but nothing’s come out yet, yesterday was run day, and I thought I’d take it easy (ish) so nicked a lift off Daddycav as he was going to price a job and I really fancied a different route, I’ve been kind of sticking to the same routes for safety with all the flooding and horrendous weather here in the Calder valley, my canal route is a definite no no at the moment and I’m missing the beauty of nature.
Anyway, I jumped in the van and got Hubby to drop me off en route, OH MY LIFE I had definitely underestimated the force of the wind...blummin eck, I have to admit to being a bit scared when I ran across the motorway bridge!!! I have no idea how strong the wind was but it was constant and it was fierce...I was about 5k away from home and about 2.5k of that was up on the tops, I changed my route so that I had quite a long downhill run but the wind was that strong I didn’t really need to put the brakes on I just let the wind hold me at an angle!!! I couldn’t get my breath at all and I could hardly see as the wind was blowing the water out of my eyes! The cars zooming past me must’ve thought I was a right lunatic trying to run in that and I would’ve agreed with them!!! A couple of times I turned round and was running backwards while I made sure my eyeballs were still in my head!!! Never again am I going to run in gale force winds again!!! I felt like I’d been in the ring with Tyson Fury!! I was skipping over the rivers that were running down the pavements because everything is so wet and hoping that I didn’t get blown into the field at the side of me mid jump!!!
So today, I’m indoors and my trainers are on the radiator drying!
This morning when I did the school run I’m sure a daffodil in the garden smiled at me and nodded it’s head just letting me know that better weather is on the way and I, for one, cannot wait!!!
Happy running everyone...be safe, be seen...& beware of the fierce winds!!!

Not such a good run for you Mummycav, pity about the wind, there are so many puddles around at the moment, it will take a long dry spell for all of them to disappear.
Lovely seeing the Spring flowers, considering it's still officially winter until Saturday, I think the worst of the winds are over, at least for a few days. 😊 🏃🏾
You’re right AlMorr , it will have to be a very long dry spell!! I love seeing the spring flowers too but I worry that they regret popping their beauty up when the weather is still cruel...
Thanks ju-ju- , I’m better wrapped up today! It was either that and a downhill to get out of the wind or run down an unlit national speed limit road without any lights on my person, I forgot to illuminate myself!! 🙄
Gawd, this has to be one of the worst Februarys ever 😱. And I am sick of the wind; makes me as skitty and nervous as a cat! Bravo you though, for getting it done. Sounds horrendous though - and all that on top of a burgeoning cold...poor you! Promise to rest up a bit for a few days, maybe that will knock it on it’s head?
For once, I am not that cheesed off with having one bum cheek on the IC, and not running much. Perhaps my body is telling me to wait for spring? 😂
I might have an extra rest day Sadie-runs , just to see if this cold develops I’ve seen you did a tentative run the other day? Gently does it, especially in this weather and one bum cheek on the IC is better than two...looking forward to reading about some long sunny runs from you my lovely friend xx
Thanks MikeJones68 ...Sure does. If I’d have known how strong the wind was I might’ve thought twice about it but like everything, experience make us who we are 💪🏻🏃🏼♀️🏃♂️
Wow that was a bit of an adventure and a hard lesson for you to learn. The good news is your next run can only be better, at least I hope it will be. Happy running
Those winds are a real pain aren’t they Mummycav? They’ve been pretty awful here on the south coast too - all character building stuff, I’m sure! Sorry you’re not feeling 100% - hope you feel better soon!
Thank you Oldgirlruns , I only usually get a cold in October but my daughter is on placement in a nursery and she had a chest infection a couple of weeks ago, think she’s bringing all sorts of germs home!!
Hopefully the winds will die down very soon, I bet on the coast the sea has been wild?!
Hello Mummycav, going out in this mad weather is bad enough . Running when you're not feeling 100% just makes it feel so much worse.
I had a cold 2 weeks ago now normally I would just keep running but it left me with just enough energy to walk the dog but running was out of the question.
Car drivers must think we are nuts running in all weathers while they are all cosy with the heating on.
I hope you're feeling better soon and I pray for some better weather🌞🌞
You're totally daft running in that weather, & with something nasty looming health wise... I am waiting for weather to improve slightly & will then try running slowly at first... Roll on Spring!
Thank you quirkybee , nothings gone full blown as yet so maybe it was just a little warning to wrap up better?! Nose bleeds seem to have vanished too so that’s good too. Hope you’re ok xxx
Yes, the wind and rain lately haven't been great for running - and now snow forecast for tomorrow. Most of my usual routes are flooded anyway... Glad you made it back safely and hope you're feeling better. Spring must be just around the corner!
Lots of flooding here too sigasiga which is limiting my runs. I’m feeling about the same so hopefully it won’t develop into anything more. Snow forecast here too but I am sure this will be the last before spring smiles down on us 😉
