I could see the rain coming. We had about 20 minutes before the cloudbladders burst, but my son wasn’t feeling the urgency. He lounged in his dressing gown, insisting he finish his game of slither.io. I would be the worst sort of hypocrite to insist he put it down - it is highly addictive to the competitive spirit - but it was difficult to contain my impatience as he eked out the most excruciatingly cautious game ever. I was tempted to grab my iPad, get in the same virtual room and sabotage him with some nifty circling. But eventually a big snake came along and gobbled him up and we were free to go.
I had programmed a 1k warm up, 5 reps of 30-20-10 seconds, then a 1k cool down into the Garmin. I need to tweak the settings so it buzzes next time, but the watch face was large enough to see the countdowns as I ran. It was fun! There was a cold wind blowing and it felt exhilarating to be running fast - for 10 seconds at a time, anyway! It was a bit easier than the last attempt at intervals, helped by the fact I had to stop a couple of times for traffic. Thank you, tractor driver and postman.
The cool down K didn’t really happen - I was all bright eyed and bushy-tailed by then and managed to put in one of my fastest ever K’s, at 5:25! The final 150m of this was really hard work. I was pushing myself and didn’t hold anything in reserve, forgetting completely that the workout was time-based and I was still 120m shy of the 3k required by the Plan... 😳😩🥵
