I run through a fashionable public amenity area and it's not unusual to see film crews. We never get in each others way - until today.
I wasn't planning a fast run today - I want Friday's to be my "fast" weekly run, but somehow I was just gliding along and I could feel I was getting faster as I went and was sure I was on for a new PB.
2 miles in and suddenly there is a tall figure running towards me waving his arms frantically and wanting to me to stop and talk to him. He asks me to change my route, as otherwise I will run through the background of their shot.
To comply I ran down some steps, across a paved area between a lot of their people, and up an incline to rejoin my route. But my rhythm was gone and I could not regain it.
I was quite angry, and I suspect it was the BBC. I don't think it was local TV news because they had a lot of people standing around and a food truck and an ambulance. Phoned the BBC to complain as in my view when they film in that area which is very popular with runners and walkers they should guide people around the filming, not just flag them down. They have given me a case number and have promised to investigate if it was them and come back to me.
Grr! Maybe I am turning into Victor Meldrew!

🤣Usually if there's an event and they want members of the public not to go through an area they tape it off and have staff stood at the entryways and perimeter asking people to go around.
There were at least a dozen people stood around the food truck drinking and chatting, so they were not short of people to do that.
If I'd carried on and run through the background of their shot, I think they'd have been pretty unhappy. I said to the guy "I'm not going to be on telly am I?", to which he replied "You will be if you carry on in that direction!".
Oh how irritating! The older I get, the more I can feel myself turning into Victor Meldrew, basically people are annoying. This morning on my run, a mum with buggy, gran with 2 dogs and a little girl were taking up the whole path. I'm running up behind them feeling very grumpy when the little girl turned round and gave me the sweetest smile. All was forgiven!
Little girls can get away with anything. Passing people who block the path can be difficult. School parties are the worst. In my day we walked in crocodiles. Of course we also lived in a cardboard box and got up before we went to bed to go work down t'mill for 29 hours a day ...
Thought it was just me. A few weeks ago at parkrun there was people in front of me running 3 across, now thats the width of the path and I had trouble trying to get past🤣
Definitely not just you! I tend to shout a cheery "Excuse me please!" but then feel I need to try and sprint away when usually it's all I can do to stay a couple of steps ahead! 😂
😂 oh dear Victor, that must have been so annoying. A few signs up advising people doesn't seem too much to ask for if they are already providing catering, ambulance etc. Looking out for themselves more than the users of the area. Hope next time you get a clear and happy run
