When will I ever learn ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„

Went out today to run a 10k, first km 5.56 thought I really need to slow down . Second km 6.01. Don't know why its was as if I couldn't slow down the whole run . Ended up with about 8 or 10 short walking breaks. Really angry with myself as I should no what to do by now. Oh well rant over . Off for a shower and a calming walk with the dog๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ•

You should never get angry with yourself, running is to be enjoyed, just put that down to a practice run.

I am doing JuJu's Magic 10K plan, this morning I ran for 35 minutes, no Mapmyrun with me but I would think it was about 5K, started the run at exactly 9am and stopped at 9.35, good run apart from being overtaken by two runners going at sub 25 minute 5K pace. ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿพ

I hope you enjoy your calming walk with dog.

Yes you're right we are supposed to enjoy it and that wasn't an enjoyable run at all.

Great you got out for a run with the magic plan AlMorr ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿ˜‚ Speedy Gonzalez! Don't be angry with yourself, you just ran 10k!

๐Ÿคฃ๐ŸคฃI've calmed down now . I just feel I ruined the run by going too fast and had to walk quite a few times

Glad you are feeling calmer and happier now. I think we're our own worst critics a lot of the time!

That's exactly right. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I don't think that you you should be to hard on yourself, I have just worked out your time from the Average Pace Column using my calculator that you ran a 62.90 minutes 10K time.

๐Ÿ˜ Don't get hung up over it, at least you went out.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I did a 10k virtual run for charity and couldn't run all of it and felt a tad disappointed I had to walk some of it. But then thought, oh well, it's for a good cause and I got a medal.. So felt better about it..

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply to davelinks

Ok I need some medals now ๐Ÿคฃ. I was looking at a 10k run last night, The Glasgow 10k Pizza run, you get 2 slices of pizza at the end and a pizza shaped medal๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ•

10k and in a great time! Think of it as an interval training run!

This is exactly how I felt after my 10k on Monday, when I was trying to keep up with people who run much faster than I do! ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜Š

Why angry? sometimes you can slow down sometimes you canโ€™t and have to walk a bit, itโ€™s all running and all good experience, loads of people only dream of what you can do

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

I know seems very stupid now and you're right I should be thankful instead ๐Ÿ˜Š

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Buddy34

Well you should be buzzing I would be. My run yesterday was 3.8k and was buzzing for ages all happy that i can run and breathe, if i could run 10k iโ€™d feel awesome, and so you are awesome just being able to do that and an inspiration to a lot of people

That sounds a bit like a lecture sorry itโ€™s not meant as such

Buddy34Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

You're absolutely right ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Good for you getting out and running 10k. All my runs have been like that recently and I had never walked before.

I really wouldnโ€™t worry, I get the impression lots of people take walk breaks sometimes.

Buddy34Graduate10 in reply to Womangolfer

Yes it is but I'm going to need to try harder to make the run more enjoyable๐Ÿ˜Š

I think you need a rucksack full of house bricks to slow you down buddy ๐Ÿ™„

But heck running breaks aren't a criminal offence.....

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10 in reply to

It's silly I think in my mind I shouldn't be having walking breaks at all . Buy I will try not to be so hard on myself next time ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ sometimes trying to slow down is just too hard. Great 10k fantastic speed, I'm still happily puddling around at 7min/k . Happy running

Some runs just donโ€™t read the script! They end up being something quite unintentional. You have a speedy pace though. Hope you enjoy your next run.

I'd write that up as having achieved a strong finish, having planned to push myself hard for the first 2k as an experiment, before a mid-run recovery jog. Oh, and coming across some cute animal in the 8th k that you had to stop and photograph โ€ฆ.. :-)

Now why didn't I think of that . I did see 2 shetland ponies ๐Ÿด๐Ÿด

Rigpig profile image

Yes, just did the second run of week 1, we are going away today for a few days to the Bay of Islands which is as good as it sounds but rather hilly, need to find somewhere a bit flat to do my long run!

Agree with everything everyone else has said... and just think how boring it would be if every run worked out just as we wanted... it gives us something to focus on in the next run. It's all good ๐Ÿ˜Š

Slowing down can be almost impossible sometimes. Your brain can scream as loudly as possible but your legs just keep doing their own thing. I often find a brief walk sometimes helps force a "reset" but not every time and I think you were having one of those times today too. Still, I've done 10k runs without any walking that have been slower than that one, so I wouldn't beat yourself up too much.

I feel your pain. Well, half of it. I had a similar experience today over 5k and felt I had cheated afterwards as a result of the โ€˜breathersโ€™. But 10k! Blimey thatโ€™s a long way Bud. Well done for keeping going after your speedy start. No one but you cares if you had to take a breather. Maybe think of it as interval/pace training rather than your easy run? 10k! ๐Ÿ‘
