Woke up early this morning with the gremlin chitter-chattering in my ear. ‘You don’t need to run, it’s been such a warm night!’ Managed to force myself out of bed and throw my running clothes on, quick cuppa and out of the door at 5:45.
Oh yes, it’s going to be a warm one. 15 degrees already and I struggle in the heat. I decided to really slow it down. I really want to do a longer run, but today is not the day.
I snap a quick photo of the common and walk round to my starting point - off I go! I kept the first km slower than usual. It’s early, but there are quite a few runners and dog walkers out there - all acknowledge me. There is hardly any traffic though, so I run in the road where I’m happiest!
Every km has its inclines but I am learning to cope with them. I shorten my stride and try not to slow down too much.
As I’m nearing the end of the 4th km, I run along the edge of the common into the village. There are lots of parked cars so I run on the pavement for safety. I near the top of the road where I’m living and it’s an incline. I’m really working hard now! It levels out and then it’s downhill all the way.
I’ve mistimed it slightly and at the bottom of the road I have to turn round for 100 metres and keep running.
The run is over and I’m really hot! I’m treating these runs like consolidation runs, trying to get out twice a week until I get my mojo back again. Every run is a victory. I did run for 3km last Friday, but forgot to post.
Looking at the stats I’m pleased with the negative splits and last km time of 6:28. I did enjoy my coffee! 😊

Well done for having done another run! But that time... that time... I was actually awake at that time, but just laying in bed waiting for my alarm clock to go at 6 to get up and get ready for work 😂
Fabulous, that's a great effort, let alone in this heat! 💪👏👏👏👏 Every run is indeed a victory and every run takes us a bit closer to where we want to be 🙂
Very impressed with the early morning running!I didn't get out until 9 this morning (no work on Mondays!) And it was a seriously hot 5k but it was such a lovely run, I took it slowly at the start just like you. Legs felt good but as usual my Km times were all over the place-one day I will achieve one of you neat tidy runs!
Thanks, Week7. I don’t think I’m capable of running if I leave it any later on these hot days! The negative splits were there - but only just! I don’t usually try for them in the heat, but sometimes get lucky 😊
