I graduated from couch to 5 k in November and have been slowly but steadily consolidating my effort. But on the eve of New Year’s day disaster struck in the form of the winter flu. I had a temperature of 39.9 degrees C and hubby called the NHS helpline as I was disoriented and had a rash. They sent paramedics who thankfully confirmed I did not have a life threatening condition and gave us lots of advice on how to get the temperature down. They also said not to expect to get out of bed for a week, and they weren’t wrong! It was 12 days before I could leave the house and my appetite is yet to return to normal. I also feel very weak. I did manage to Marshall at park run this week and do a 4.5 mile dog walk. But after that I was exhausted. I am not a patient person so this is hard and I am very worried about how hard it will be to return to any level of fitness. But at least we have made a start with the walk, may be a gentle short run later in the week???

That is so serious...I am glad you're feeling a little better.
It can be so so hard to stay sensible sometimes, but...the runs wait.
Fitness may be lost after two weeks, but with a really debilitating illness like you have suffered, it may be longer before you get back on track.
So maybe, take it really gently..steady, relaxed walking...building to brisker walking..then a gentle jogette.
Your body will soon tell you how it feels, and the trick is...listen to it😉
There are a lot of us on the IC right now...or just climbing down.. and it is hard to know how to move on again..but we will...and so will you ..x

You have my sympathies - I had a bad dose of flu last christmas and have never felt so unwell in my life. Take your time getting well - allow your body time to recover. Hopefully you will be back to full strength soon.

That's grim. But once you are running comfortably again, you will be surprised how quickly you get back towards PB territory - as long as you don't push too hard, too soon. And best take the cycling easy too, Sandie1961 will probably appreciate some time off
Best of luck

Oh no. What a (real) pain! Do take it easy for a good while. I’m not patient either, but a come-back too soon can lead to relapse as I found to my cost last spring. Gently, gently and things will get better. Massive sympathy meanwhile. 😊👍

Gosh S&R you have been laid low. I’m glad you’re starting to feel better, but like everyone has said, take it easy coming back. The slowest of slow jogs interspersed with walking will do for starters, then gradually build up from there.
Look after yourself. ❤️
