Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Unfortunately no parkrun for me this morning. I was away with work for a few days and was not home until late last night. I’m wrecked and it’s raining, so not today. 😀
Morning Damien, I’m at the back of the pack as ever - not sure why I didn’t post yesterday! A rather damp parkwalk for me yesterday day with Coddfish and MrC as Dexy5 and UpTheStanley were off celebrating with Cheekychipmunks at her 100th parkrun. So I sneaked quietly in with my 50th - a shout out from the RD and that was it! But I’m chuffed with 50, I really didn’t think I’d get that far but feel that 100 may be within my grasp! Happy parkrunning folks!
Just a moment Oldgirlruns , whilst I’m absolutely thrilled that you’ve done your 50th, I had no idea I was robbing you of some of your cheerleaders! I’d definitely have come to celebrate with you too. What a shame we had milestones on the same weekend, and I simply happened to be the noisier of the two of us about it! You’re naughty!!!! Very very naughty! 😅
Sorree cheeky! It was just poor timing really, I could have waited until next week but a) I’m meeting up with friends then so no parkrun for me and b) I didn’t want to wait any longer! And I wasn’t entirely alone - I had Coddfish and Mr C for company and a shout out from the RD! I’m sure there’ll be other occasions to celebrate, including my 💯 one day!
Congratulations on your 50th parkrun Oldgirlruns You certainly managed to keep that one quiet (not difficult with the amount of noise the rest of us were making 😂😂) We’ll have to have a big celebration for your 💯 instead 🥳🥳
Thanks Sandie! Yes, it was a bit sneaky but it was the way the numbers fell and I didn’t want to wait! I’m glad that there was much celebrating with cheeky, I’ll get my opportunity another time!
I’m so sorry JP, I didn’t think! Dexy has casually mentioned celebrating the first time I wear my T-shirt so I’ll let you know about that! In the meantime I’d better go and order it!
Where did that come from OG?!! That was very sneaky!! I hope you’re going to make up for it and have a big celebration 🍾 Congratulations 🥳 and here’s to many, many more 💪🥳👏👏👏
Severn Bridge today for cheekychipmunks 100th with loads of the HU gang. I won’t go into too much detail as I’m sure there’ll be quite a few posts but I can see why she loves it so much.
Had a lovely natter with SkiMonday along the way which helped pace it and so didn’t go too fast. It’s about the right pace for my achilles so it isn’t complaining too much this week.
This run reminded me that one of our RDs is running the New York marathon tomorrow, that’s got a fair few bridges!
Wow that must have been a good day to remember. I saw the map on SkiMonday Strava and thought where the heck was that as it was just a straight line through water from the initial view.
When I ran the Bristol 10k in 2019 I was running in the River Avon and on the opposite bank too by all accounts! That’s quite a drop off the Portway. 😅
The run itself was a 10 mile one, the distance across from coast to coast itself is 5km each way. I got fairly soaked during it, but it was great fun, I was originally trying to jump over or run around the water until it got so bad that I just ran through them.
I'm in Greece at the moment on an island which seems to completely lack flat surfaces. It was a bit cooler this morning, 19-20C, so we decided to do 4km, ending at the beach for a swim. Ran along the road for 2km then turned back. We were both feeling good so decided we'd make it 5km. Ran past the beach where we left our towels and carried on an additional 500m then turned back. My husband said, 'That was our Parkrun!' so I explained it was a (not) Parkrun
My time was 39'08" which wasn't bad considering how much of the route was up slopes!
Hi damienair & other park runners & (not) park runners,
No 2 son got 20:00 today so is very close to his Sub 20 goal. Hubby was taking it “steady” after his calf injury and came in at 26:56. I followed a good few minutes later at 29:28 running flat out 🤣
Run director made the best joke at the start telling all volunteers to tell anyone who complained that they were welcome to come back next week for a free run 🤣
Hi Damienair and everyone. Today was abdominal operation + 10 days so no running for a while yet so I volunteered for Sixfields Parkrun duties, on tokens again. I measured up the distance to walk back to my home, mainly through the splendid Nene Valley park, and decided why not. Not quite 5k but long enough. Convalescence isn't really a concept used these days but reading a cautionary tale on the BHF pages ( Walk before you run) says today was far enough. I think recovery may test my patience but I guess it's a necessary evil. Parkrun was excellent with nearly two hundred runners out this week. Managed to chat to a couple of nervous first timers but they made it and were pleased with their runs.
Hi everyone, I woke up early after a pretty poor night's sleep, saw it was bright, looked at the time and I thought I'd make the parkrun. This was my fist since first week in May, I was doing training plans for all my running events and I didn't want to mess with them.
I did a 1k warmup and then waited with everyone for the start, where I was deliberately at the back as I didn't want to get caught up with the front runners and exhaust myself.
The only real niggle I had was at the start where I was using the runkeeper app for the first time and had set up a 20 week marathon plan and the first run was meant to be a 3.1k interval surge run. I thought I skipped it but realised I didnt when I was asked to run for 1 minute at a 1k/4min pace, I half tried and passed a few of the other runners until deciding to ignore it and get back to reality.
I basically kept to the same pace running with 2 women passing one at the halfway point and passing the other at the top of hills where she passed me going down. I did think a few times of running faster but wanted to keep it steady and in control. I heard a few fast and heavy footfalls at the end and was passed a couple of times, I picked up a bit to stop the others. I then collected my token and slow jogged for a few seconds until wstch signaled 5k.
Time on watch 24:37 official time 24:20 (PB 23:55).
I saw from the email that this was my 20th parkrun, 19 in Sligo with 1 in Bexley in Kent when I visited family.
All in all it was a good run and I was pleased with the way I handled it. I think I'll try to get to 25 before year end.
Good afternoon Damien, I was hoping for a nice parkwalk with my daughter and the parkwalker at the very back, (only the tailwalker was just behind me) this morning at Drumpellier Parkrun after my longest ever run on Wednesday which was 20.59 kilometers, instead I only walked with the parkwalker for the first Kilometre and ran the other 4, my daughter Gillian walked quicker than me or the parkwalker so she was a bit ahead of me at 1 Kilometre when the parkwalker suggested that I should start running, I soon passed my daughter and several other walkers and runners to finish the run in a time of 37.29 at 109th place out of 143 runners and walkers.
She texted me 2 hours after she had finished saying she was very happy about her first parkwalk at Drumpellier Parkrun saying that she may register with parkrun and get a barcode for when she walks at parkrun the next time, probably early next year. I was also happy with my running part today considering that I only RAN 4K this morning, I WALKED the first Kilometre with the parkwalker at the very back (the tailwalker was just behind me) telling her my running history at various parkruns mentioning that this parkrun was the one that I achieved my PB of 30.09 about a year ago.
20Km? Good grief Al, whatever next! How nice that you’ve managed to introduce your daughter toparkrun/walk, I’m sure she won’t regret getting herself a barcode!
That was a very long run for me last Wednesday, I ran non stop for 16K/10 miles, had a quick 2 minute walk, felt good and then ran and only walked up a few steeper hills until my watch told me I had ran for 2 hours 45 minutes, I burnt 1,500 calories. Today Sunday I went a 11.93K walk in a time of 2 hours and a quarter, I burnt 640 calories with 17,108 steps according to Mapmywalk.
My daughter told me yesterday that she hopes to register with parkrun so she can get a barcode.
Well done Al . Even though you walked a km stil good time. I see you had a big walk today 11.93 km , hope you kept dry today. I only did a 6.2 walk as had things to do and to help,p Mr D clear garage to take some things to dump. Hope you have a good rest this afternoon and sit with your feet up 🙂
Hello again Doris8, it was a lovely cool morning, temperature around 8C, no rain, part of that walk was up a trail course that runners run a trail HM at the end of October, sadly that HM hasn't taken place since 2019 due to Covid, I am not sure why it didn't take place this year, all the organisers said on the website was ".due to certain circumstances beyond or control our annual HM trail run has been cancelled for this year", perhaps it will be back next year. I have just come back from taking my neighbours dog Holly a walk and now I am sitting with my feet up watching the mens Rugby League World Cup between Tonga and Samoa on BBC 2
I forced myself to turn up to my 11th Parkrun so far, it was a damp one but I really needed to run after being kept indoors by torrential rain, winds and working late all week. 278 of us turned up and I really enjoyed being outdoors and getting rid of those niggly stresses of life. Ran alone (but doesn’t feel like) and I had a lot of energy today, kept passing people but not enough for a sprint finish. ☺️
It was rather Peppa Pig (muddy puddles! ) at Portsmouth Lakeside this morning so I decided to wear trail shoes for the first time in many months. There was a heavy shower 20 minutes before the start, but thankfully the rain held off for the run itself. Not a day for a PB or even getting back under 30 mins, but surprisingly I managed to improve on my performance of the last couple of weeks - 31.09. Getting there!
Hi Damien! I’ve posted separately on the marathon forum about my 100th, so won’t subject you to all the detail here as well, but suffice to say it was a hoot and I had such a lovely turnout of HU chums - Dexy5 UpTheStanley Sandie1961 Shake-and-run TailChaser Katnap and SkiMonday , as well as Jenny (my daughter) and a handful of other friends who’d turned up too. Thanks everyone. ❤️
Still below par pace-wise, but I was encouraged to find it was a good improvement on last week by 1:24 on a very windy day. 100 in the bag. ✅
We’ve got someone who sticks extra numbers on his 100 shirt every time he hits an arbitrary number, that might be a way of ticking things over each 50 or so?
If I was to claim that I was fully aware of what was planned and completely focussed on the task this morning, I’d be lying outrageously!
I’ve had a note in my diary for some time now which shows “Severn Bridge ParkRun” for today. I remembered that it was organised by cheekychipmunks and that there was a plan to go to a cafe in Bristol afterwards but couldn’t remember the reason for the event (birthday, maybe?) Didn’t help that I couldn’t find any of the posts about it on here.
Anyhow, I left home in reasonable time, drove to the specified postcode then followed other runners down to the starting area. I wondered around the assembled group of parkrunners but didn’t recognise anyone so I assumed that the plans had changed. Still, it’s not unusual for me to roll up to a ParkRun on my own (usually the day before a race) so not a problem. Then I noticed a few familiar faces and realised that the meetup was happening. Turns out this was to celebrate CC’s 100th ParkRun. Not sure what she made of the “Happy Birthday” message I’d sent!
Wondered over for the pre-run briefing, walked as part of the crowd towards the start then everyone around me started running so I started too! There’s something about ParkRuns that means I usually forget to start my watch until I’ve been going for a while, with the absence of an obvious start, I had no chance!
I think this was the first VRB meetup that I’ve been to where I’ve actually been running so I wasn’t sure if the arrangement was to run as a group or for each of us to run at our own pace. Besides, by the time I found myself running, I hadn’t given any thought to how I was going to run (comfortable pace, all out for a PB, easy pace or whatever). Still, the last time I embarked on a ParkRun with a similar level of planning, I finished with a ParkRun PB (although today’s was only my 13th ParkRun so it’s not as if I’ve a lot to beat!) Anyhow, I ran most of it having a nice chat with Katnap andTailChaser (until about 2/3 of the distance when KN put on some extra speed). So, I finished the run chatting to TC. My aim by then was just to match pace but she said I was acting as a pacer! I suppose that, once I’ve locked on to a pace, I tend to hold it!
Drove into Bristol afterwards to go to the cafe. Doesn’t help that Redcliffe Bridge is closed but satnavs haven’t been updated so it kept trying to direct me down a road that’s shut. It’s a bascule bridge and the road surface is vertical so there’s no arguing with that! I came across an Asda car park, left the car there and jogged on over to the cafe. Had a good old chat in the cafe but this post is getting way too long so I’ll stop here.
You’re a star SM! I did see your birthday greetings message and had a good chuckle, as even though I’m not as young as I was, I can safely say I’m not yet 100! 😅 I did reply to your message, but only this morning - so I’m thrilled you could come!
Don’t talk to me about the drive into town afterwards. I was fairly restrained with my language, but I was increasingly losing all hope of getting to brunch ever! 😅
Yes she was wasn’t she Dexy? Without her special app we’d still be driving around now! I’m still trying to think of a way to get there with all the roadworks and new bus lanes! 😅
As others have already said, today was a big celebration at Severn Bridge for the lovely cheekychipmunks 100th parkrun. My Garmin time was 33.03, official time 33.28 and those all elusive negative splits 🥳🥳 (uphill out, downhill back helped enormously 😂). It turned out the RD is best mates with my home RD at Market Rasen. 😳Small world! Fab post run brunch and a great morning 😃😃
Hello damienair and HU Runners. It was so brilliant running along with the lovely cheekychipmunks on the Iconic Severn Bridge From Wales to England to celebrate her 100th parkrun. I am half Welsh so it seemed entirely appropriate to do a run in both countries on one parkrun! Running as black cats to mark the black T-shirt she earned today. The fancy dress amused people in the hotel, parkrun and restaurant. Thankfully the torrential rainstorm did not happen as forecast and only light rain at the end of the run. The broadside wind made it particularly exhilarating.
As always, so lovely to see the gang again as well as to see SkiMonday who we met at Eastville some years ago and to meet Cheeky’s daughter, who runs like a gazelle.
Ps my run today was dedicated to AlMoor , who sadly lost his cat this week. 🐈⬛
That’s a great pre-run photo! I’d like to say you all looked as neat and tidy after - but sorry I can’t! Thanks again for coming to help me celebrate. Jen thought you were all lovely and can’t wait to join us again. 😀
Well that was an odd Saturday, my watch said my fastest 5k but my Parkrun result was nearly a minute over. Fast foreword 5 hrs & the results were updated owing to a glitch & I got a pb.. Iannoda Truffe, Tim, was there when I started my c25k journey with sound advice, perhaps he's still watching over us
It was somewhat wet and windy in Southsea as I tackled it as a parkwalker with my trusty urban poles. 10 days out of chemo, and it supposedly takes 3 months for your red blood cells to fully recover, so it’s probably going to be a while before I can run.
