Christmas 10k

What a lovely day it was at Dorney Lake. Beautiful sunshine and a nice 7 degrees. If it hadn’t been for the wind it would have been perfect but I can’t complain!

Having done my first 10k last Saturday and not run at all this week or done yoga I was a little concerned. I needn’t have worried, it was a lovely run, not too many people and I just did my own pace. It was a little slower than last week at 1.08.55 but I’m happy with that as it was windy. I came second to last but that’s fine too.

I’m afraid I can’t work out how to add two photos so I chose my medal.

It was a great way to celebrate my achievements. Who would have thought in June when I couldn’t run for one minute that this would be how my year would end.

Thank you all so much for your support and encouragements. I hope you too have achieved your goals.

Happy Christmas 🌲🎅🏻🌲

Thanks Buddy, yes I am proud and it’s a nice winter one.

Congratulations on that run today, you ran it, that is the main thing, sub 70 minutes and coming in second last must mean that you were running with a lot of club runners, at the majority of 10K runs, just short of 69 minutes would leave you around three quarters down the course and not nearly being last,

I noticed a 10K a few months ago which was advertised as a "fun run", however, when I looked at the time of the person who came in last, his time was just over a hour, most of those runners were club athletes, not really people who don't run all that often, once again well done on your run today. 😊 🏃🏾

Thanks, that’s kind. You’re right though I actually did see a lot of club T-shirt’s now you mention it although some were sprinting by so fast it was hard to focus on the wording🤣.

Fortunately I don’t care about that I just happened to notice when I looked for my time. I’m happy to get round and I really did enjoy it despite the wind. It was lovely to be out there on a beautiful day and somewhere I have never been before.

That is the main thing, you got round it and enjoyed it too, I was looking at the list of cancelled park runs there are over the next week or two, apart from weather cancellations, most are cancelled because of a Christmas themed run on the same course as the Saturday morning parkrun, it made me wonder if the runners at those events are a completely different group than the usual people who run at parkruns, maybe a few are the same but I get the feeling that most don't usually run on a Saturday morning.

I have only done ParkRun twice and didn’t rally enjoy it. For some reason I found it exhausting which doesn’t make sense at all as it’s flat. The only difference it that it’s on grass?

Also when doing the JuJu plan I needed to do my long run at the weekend so it didn’t fit in.

Yay! Congratulations! That's a mighty fine time, it must've been a pretty serious run! It was really windy hereabouts this morning, so well done for battling that as well as race nerves. What a great way to close the year 👏👏👏🏅

in reply to linda9389

Thanks so much. Yes it was quite windy and I think you notice it more because it’s so open but I was delighted that the rain stopped and the sun came out just before we started.

On the positive side the wind kept me nice and cool. It’s a lovely venue and I think I will sign up for the 10k in March and then a 15k closer to the GSR.

Happy days 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

That's true - there would've been no shelter round that lake! March sounds like a good shout! And 15k will be a cool way to prep for GSR, there aren't many options for races at that distance I don't think. But for now you need to enjoy a well deserved rest, with that lovely bling round your neck and a big cheesy grin on your face 😍

in reply to linda9389

Indeed I will thanks. I have a nice break until the new year so no running in the dark. Yippeee!

Lovely post and well done on your 10k! Winning!

After 9 months of running I have my first race on Boxing Day at Black Park (Bucks) which is a 5K. I can’t wait to get stuck into races. I have my eye on doing a race around Dorney Lake too, but Saturday’s are taken up with Parkrun so depends on scheduling. Do you live in the area?

It was bitterly cold this morning, well done for getting through it 🙂

in reply to JaoJao

Thanks so much. I would definitely recommend running round there it’s lovely AND flat. I do love running in the cold and just had a long sleeve T-shirt on, I get so hot when running but am generally cold all the time.

I actually live just outside Winchester in Hampshire so about an hour away but it was worth the drive.

I have been struggling with the cold weather, this morning I had enough layers on (4 not including sports bra) and even with that my feet felt like ice blocks it’s was really tough the first 2 km of parkrun.

Ah wow you drove for an hour to get there, well done Rainbow xx

in reply to JaoJao

Poor you that must be really hard being so cold. Have you tried foot warmers in your trainers? They are adhesive so should be ok. There are also hand warmers you could put in your gloves.

Ah I will take a look at those, thank you Rainbow. I think the reason I feel so cold is because I’m small ☹️ I need to work on it as it bothers me.

And to see people turning up to parkrun running in t-shirts! Jeez!

Congratulations, a fabulous achievement 🏃‍♀️🎖 You've inspired me to look for local 5k and 10k races (not that I've run 10k yet..)
