After nearly coming a cropper last week and taking about 5 days rest to allow a tight calf muscle to settle back down, I restarted JuJu's Magic Plan at the end of this week and attempted my w5r3 8k today. I had no targets today other than to go slow and steady and run the distance. I didn't even care about pace for a change (can't help a little competitive spirit with myself creeping in sometimes) as I didn't want to push it too soon.
I almost became tempted to just stop and watch the beautiful sunset and mini starling murmurations that were threatening to join together but knowing I had to do one and a half laps of my route down country lanes so close to nightfall, I didn't really want to be in the pitch black so I ploughed ahead.
I found the 6-7k section a bit tricky but I think that was more of a psychological thing so I pushed through as best as I could. Finally heard those magic little words telling me I'd finished and I was shocked to find I'd set new personal records! Bonus! 8.2k completed in 49:29 and a 5k in 30:24! I've never been sub 30mins for a 5k so had I realised, I would have gone that teeny bit faster but that wasn't the name of the game today.
I don't know what it was about today but I'm just going to enjoy the surprise as I don't think it will be something I'll be repeating (or trying to repeat) soon but it's definitely given me that extra boost, after nearly missing a week, to try and see if I can complete a 10k before Christmas ๐๐ . I won't force it, but it would be lovely and a nice way to cap off a crap year!

You can do this - donโt give up. You will have the 10K in your pocket in no time. Itโs more a mind game where you need to focus just on that run, no competing with getting a new PB and most importantly enjoy it. Looking forward to seeing your message โI have done it!!!โ
Ah thanks Silkey! Yes I'll get there at some point and even though I do enjoy the stats side of things, my consultation runs before starting this plan taught me that it's all about the feeling of the run and enjoying them ๐
Thanks GailXrunning! Don't get me wrong, there were some parts where I did flagged a bit but just kept going. I had no intention of ever going for the 10k but you'll be surprised at how the temptation grows the more consolidation you do ๐
What a beaut of a view - and a run! Congrats on your PBs! So lovely to have a boost when you had an injury scare last week. Bask in your 8K glory over the coming days ๐ฅฐ I bet your Christmas wish comes true. Not far to go at all! ๐๐ผ๐คฉ
Hi Acountrycabbage! Thanks so much. Yes I was really chuffed and ill hopefully be taking it to 9k this weekend as I've done two 8ks now. Let's hope the weather plays ball ๐ค. How are you doing? I hope you're ok ๐
Great 5k time, ๐๐ป๐๐ป you could complete a sub 30 5k no problem. As for 10k by Christmas, why not. Try the Nike Run Club 10k, guided run, Coach Bennett will encourage you all the way, thatโs how I did my first one. Good luck Pnegirl and well done, youโre doing great ๐๐โโ๏ธ
Thanks Couchphoenix! Your posts always spur me on ๐. The first 8k I did I felt I could have carried on but this latest one I felt pretty shattered by the end. I've got a couple more weeks to try and complete the 10k and you know me, I love a good challenge! If it doesn't happen for Christmas, it's still no great loss lol
Great run, keep going as you are nearly there. Iโve just recently finished the plan and it does work, made it to 10k by the end of the plan, so I am sure you can do it, if you are already at 8k.
So sorry for only just replying Ant50 and congratulations on competing your 10k plan! That's brilliant news and I hope you're over the moon with it even if it was a couple of weeks ago. I managed the 10k this morning and am ecstatic! Just need to look after my leg muscles now though as I don't think they're too happy with me despite the stretches ๐
Thatโs great well done on your 10k, it feels great doesnโt - if not a little painful ! Still the aches are all worth it for knowing you have done it. Keep up with the long runs !
I suspect ๐ถSanta Claus is coming to town๐ถ With that 10k in his sack for you ๐๐ ๐ป๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆDonโt think a sub 30 min 5K is far away either ๐
Keep doing what your doing , youโre progress has been brilliant . You must be chuffed with how itโs all going and yes ! hereโs to running hard towards a better year in 2021 ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐
Racingingthesteeet! I'm so sorry to have missed your message! Loving the emojis and singing ๐ but most importantly thank you for the boost and encouragement. I'm going to catch up on posts and things now so I hope you're ok and that you're still enjoying your lovely runs. I hope your plan is still going smoothly too as I know weather sometimes gets in the way where you are and it stopped me a little bit this week ๐
Donโt be worrying about keeping up ๐ thatโs as challenging as the running ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ . I sometimes do one โhitโ when time runs off with me . I only occasionally โkeep upโ ๐๐
