Brrrrrrrrrr...Monday night was freeeeeezing!! In my previous life I would've been happily hogging the fire whilst gaining corned beef legs by sitting too close but instead I was out in the -2 temperature despite the collection of frowns I faced from my family as they screeched "you haven't had your tea!!!" And "its freezing out there!!"
"All the better for running in my dears!!"
So I huffed and I puffed and I ran a lovely 6.47k. I have decided that even though I love running about 9am i also love running in the crispy evenings...what is going on? I actually hated winter in my previous life but I love it now!!! I find myself, even on non-running days, actually enjoying the cold or the rain, I am looking at the weather with different eyes. My thighs were freezing, I started off with a very, very thin running jacket over my t-shirt but I ended up taking it off and fastening it round my waist and all the run I thought about how comfortable I was feeling and my legs were in their own world!!!
Today should've been run day but with the flippin Xmas shopping etc getting in the way and tomorrow theres something big going on, I might get a run in tomorrow night but I can't tell you how much this running lark has changed my outlook not just on the weather but on lots of things in life...enjoy your running while you can. None of us know what's around the corner but we often forget how fantastic running is and how powerful it makes us feel which is just what we need sometimes xxx
For those of my friends who aren't feeling it at the moment, on the IC or going through a tough time I will take you out with me anytime, just keep popping in on here and you will take something from us all that I hope will help you in your hour of need but all I ask of you in return is that you remember the feeling of running, it's a feeling that unless you are a runner you will never have felt, we are privileged to have even sought out running, the feeling we get from it is a bonus and the friends we make from it are well, they are a blessing...
Happy running my lovely friends

Omg Mummycav you nailed it with this post... not been running lately, but I do remember that feeling & I can't wait to get it back... power... clarity... joy...
SuzyKK , I will be happy to see you out there again..I truly hope my post has helped you gather what you need to get back out there, those are the exact feelings I'm on about...I for one would be so happy to read that you're back out there doing what I know you love xxx
Oh MC youโve encapsulated the feeling. If only it could be prescribed to non-runners too. โค๏ธ
I agree about the weather. Give me winter any day over the heat of the summer. All Iโm not keen on is the dark, although Iโm lucky in that I can run in the daytime. I was out yesterday morning and got caught in a brief but heavy unexpected shower. I looked up at the sky and grinned. It felt awesome. ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Happy running and keep feeling the feeling! ๐๐๐โโ๏ธ
I love that feeling cheekychipmunks , it's so liberating and makes you feel alive...I remember, in previous life, looking at runners in the rain and wondering why??? Why are they running and getting wet through and not catching the next bus home??? I wonder if people wonder that when they see me splashing through the puddles or running in the frosty evening?!! X
Ah what a fab post and soo true. Thank u. I'm sitting here checking the weather (feels like - 3)wondering If I should do a small run before work and that can I really be bothered (I know!!!) And this post has turned my frown upside down and I'm going to do it. ๐ ๐
Yay!!! Good for you Deals1 ...that's what I love about this forum, you just have to read one thing and it makes you want to get up and go!! I hope you have a wonderful run before work that sets you up for the day xx
Great post MC, glad it's teaching you to embrace your environment...me too, it makes you see the world differently and it's a blessing that we were lucky enough to find running and this particular forum.
There's a quote I have saved on my phone which I think you'll love as much as me:
'Running is a favour your body does for your soul'
Oh yes, I like that Run46 , I'm going to pinch that!!! We are lucky to be part of this wonderful community, I have made what I would consider some true friends on here and I never would have if I wasn't a runner and that would be such a shame
I hope you can make it to PR this weekend Dexy5 because I need you to run for me. I have a choir performance ๐ ๐ถ - unheard of for a Saturday morning - and Iโm going to miss PR. To say Iโm gutted is an understatement. ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ
Oh no cheeky, I hope you donโt get the shakes. Iโm Tailwalking with Oldgirlruns s as I have the Reindeer dash on Sunday. Iโll run at Oldgirlruns pace so a nice gentle jog just the way you like it. ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ ๐ป๐คถ
Thatโs a lovely lovely post! Iโve been off with a nasty cough for a little while and struggling to get back to a regular run with Christmas coming up, but your post has just clarified it all for me, and Iโm just going to relax and enjoy whenever I can skip out of the door - thank you ๐
Well I went out today with that attitude - and ended up running my best, happiest and fastest 5k yet - in the pouring rain too! So thank you for the inspiration ๐๐ป
They really are the best kind I runs arent they?? And that's what keeps me going, looking for that feeling with every run, doesn't always happen but I'm liking the search!!!
Iโm with you on the weather viewpoint!! I usually hibernate in the winter and dream of sunny days but here Iโm out in the icy rain and wind and loving it. In a vv light rain/wind jacket that I take off after 10 mins to reveal a vest top. ๐๐๐
Oh the weather can be unforgiving and once those gremlins get into your head telling you that the weather outweighs the feeling of a good old run you dont stand a chance...but you have to ignore or them and just lace up your trainers without thinking too much about it, open the door, start your watch and start your warm up...otherwise it just ain't happening...and that's the tragedy, overthinking will never end well x
Aw - lovely post - Iโve not been out in the cold and dark yet BUT ran yesterday for the first time in a while - you are correct this running lark changes your life; it improves my mood no end and makes me feel more confident. You are also correct in that it is easy to forget how good it is. Thanks for the encouraging post x
This post is so inspiring as are you Mummycav. I used to be an avid follower and sometime poster on this forum when I was doing c25k. It supported me and got me through and made me believe.. in running and myself. I followed JuJus 10 is the Magic Number plan which was awesome. Last weekend I completed my second half marathon even though I always said I was never going to run further than 10km!!
I now have running buddies in real life and run more than ever..so time is short but I often read these posts and tell lots of people about the c25k programme and this forum.
I always say to people that running has done more for my mind than my body.. I love just being out there and like you always questioned the sanity of those that ran in the rain and the wind...now its just run day and I go!!
"Running is a favour your body does for your soul"... I'm going to steal that quote too!!
Your reply is also inspiring, Iโve never run further than 10k either and Iโm not sure I could but maybe thatโs all in my head?? Jujuโs 10k plan works wonders, I was lucky enough to run most of it in France on quiet roads with beautiful scenery...this forum really is the best, everyone just inspires each other and everyone wants each other to do well, I just have to come on here and instantly feel better!! X
