A couple of my VRBs are a bit quiet at the moment, so perhaps I’m not alone in my light being a little dull at the moment. I’m hoping we can all get back to enjoying what we still love to do! 🏃🏽♀️
Trying to push myself to run and overcome the lack of mojo and that ‘not wanting to run’ feeling, led to a few aches and pains. I think I’ve recovered now, but running in the winter is still a challenge for me 😕. After a couple of weeks of letting go to rest. I was out at PR last week and had a good slow run, with a great bunch of people😀. I’ve not been back out since and haven’t quite found the remedy yet, but I’m hoping it will come along soon.......And I hope it ‘bloody hurries up’! 🤣
Happy running Runners! ❤️

Stick something on the Quest thread, Fab, and report against it each week - it’s a great motivator. I was feeling a bit flat after the Great South Run when I signed up for Roseabi’s November Speed Challenge on the HM forum, that kept my feet to the fire very nicely 👍👣🔥
Don't really know what the answer is, but music helps me, I feel kind of insulated from the world around me with a good tune in my ears. Also quite funny being the only person out and about in short sleeves passing people wrapped up in coat hat and gloves and clutching a Starbuck's coffee cup for warmth.
Also find that although the thought of running seems intimidating in the gloom and cold and wind once I get going and I'm warmed up I'm usually OK.
Thanks ForbiddenPlanet!! 🤗 I really hoped I would feel that insulation too, but it didn’t quite work. It might be a case of getting active with some company 🤷🏽♀️! It sounds great to be running solo happy and in short sleeves too! 🤩❤️
Sounds like you enjoyed that PR - pleased that company helps you!
Re short sleeves - I don't really feel the cold - at least to the extent that Southern England gets cold. And if I wear long sleeves I know I'll regret it because I'll be too hot after a few minutes! In a shared office I'm always the person who would like the heating turned down, so seems I'm just naturally inclined that way.
I'm currently hibernating 😊I did a 4.5km a week or so ago and was glad I'd done it, but have decided to just do enough to not lose all my new fitness, and build up again in Spring. Or whenever it stops raining. I did a few miles walking on Thurs with a non-running friend and really enjoyed that.
Thanks so much BTP🤗! I’ve considered walking, but just not gone beyond the thought! 🤦🏽♀️! I’m a bit frustrated with myself at the moment! 🥴! Need a boot 🥾, I think! ❤️
I go through phases like this...it’s totally normally, especially at this time of year. What works for me is to make running totally non-negotiable, in the same way that sleeping, eating and brushing my teeth is. Running is just something on my weekly agenda. Sure, sometimes I don’t want to go out, and in those cases I just go through the motions of getting my gear on and going out - more often than not it is absolutely fine once I am up and out! And if it’s not, I just knock out 2-3km. Better than nothing. When the weather is crapola (as it is today), I make sure I have a reward to come home to - a hot bubble bath instead of usual shower, or something lovely for breakfast.
Even if you only get out to parkrun, you are still winning in my book. 👍😊
Thanks so much Sadie! 🤗 I tried the non negotiable and it worked (sort of 😊), but I ended up with a few aches and pains. Though I’ve tried to love it, the weather is very “crapola” for running at the moment 😂. I’ll work it out, somehow. I guess I can take the frustration with myself as a good sign! 😳❤️
Yes, I’m sure that would help too! I know someone who was thinking of starting the C25k! I think I’ll get in touch and see if they fancy some company! I know I do! 😉❤️
Really hard in the winter especially when you've hit all your targets. Be easy on yourself and set small targets, nothing wrong with throwing in some short runs, or intervals. Something easily attained so you are successful rather than feeling it is all too much effort. You can get back up to longer distance in the spring.
Really difficult to switch your brain off. Is there something else you would like to do for a few weeks and get back to running later? Yoga, swimming, coffee and cake with friends? Oops how did that get in there 🤣
I've joined roseabi and Linda's half marathon training plan. I'm hoping it will help keep me motivated over the winter. I'm also thinking about joining a running group. I've invested in some warm winter running gear too. Left to my own devices, I probably wouldn't venture over the threshold. Good luck with whatever you decide is best for you 😊
Thanks so much Cantstopmenow! 🤗 I don’t really have a specific goal, which might be part of the problem. I do think I’ll need to build up to a regular routine again though. I’m still determined to work it out! 😁❤️
You will. I bet that once you've made a decision and start a routine the desire to run will kick in again. I cant believe I enjoyed my run in the wind and rain yesterday 🙃😁💝
Hiya Fab!! Sorry, loads on atm! UTS is right, the Quests and Speed Challenges are great things. They are really good at mixing things up and giving you something to aim for.
I’ve just done the Speed Challenge and did the same 10k route for 4 weeks. It sounds boring but km 5-6 was the speed challenge and it always made the run a bit different.
Hope you get to parkrun today. Have a fab runny time x
Hey TailChaser! 👋🏽 Thanks so much. I think I’m struggling with solo running at the moment. I didn’t get to PR today, but I have popped in and decided to join the gym. I think it will help to mix it up a bit and get me out and about. ❤️
Hey there! I know how you feel. I'm a bit like Baddie at the moment just doing enough (I hope) to keep fitness going through winter. I'm averaging one run a week with the odd short run late pm/eve if I can face it. I think I'm not that far from you (near Cirencester), if you fancy some company on a walk/run (no pressure, I'm a sloth) possibly with cake eating opportunities it'd be great to meet you! x 🙂🏃🏽♀️🍰☕
Ah thanks so much Slinkymalinki! 🤗 That’s so kind of you! 🥰 I definitely feel running solo in winter is not my thing. I don’t know why? 🤷🏽♀️! I’ve joined the gym today to get me out and about. Cirencester isn’t too far! When I get a grip of my lazyitis, it would be great to come over to have a run with company. Thanks so much! 😀❤️
Ooh you are good joining a gym! I have an irrational fear of gyms 🤣. Please do get in touch when you feel up to it. I need the motivation too! After next weekend I'm around during weekdays as well if that helps (Xmas hols). 🙂
Thank you Slinkymalinki! 🤗 I know! 😃 It will be one of many attempts to get into the gym 😳, but that was before C25K, so I’m hoping the extra movement will give me a bit of a kick up the butt! 🤞🏽 ❤️
Hi Fab I’ve graduated C25K for second time now but I can’t seem to increase my distance up to 5K so I’m just trying to keep going with 30 mins x3 per wk and hoping the extra distance will come when I’m ready. I did it last year but finding it harder this year. There’s a park run nearby that I’m aiming for when I can run the distance. But I don’t find it easy to keep going in winter and my daughter’s gone back to work so I’m doing some more babysitting which I find uses up my energy left over for exercising.
Also got some knee pain so have started the recommended stretching exercises which I really like and can feel the benefit of and sessions in hot tub and intending to get into the pool. I feel have to keep moving or just go down hill really. 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Ah snailface! 🤗 Thank you and everyone for tips and ideas. It’s most appreciated. 🥰
I can relate to the winter energy bank being low! The frustration of not doing anything is annoying me. So, I’m taking the first step to try doing this differently. I’ve just joined the gym and will start with getting myself out there with ‘company’ and see how that goes. ❤️
Going to the gym sounds like a great idea at this time of year if you've lost your mojo for running outside.
You can still run there and do strength exercises plus a ton of other things...plus when the lighter evenings come in next year you'll probably be so over running on a treadmill you'll be champing at the bit to get back out there...and it will be delightful 😊
Thanks so much Run46! One run on the treadmill might do it too! 😂! I hated it the last time I tried it, but it’s worth the wake up call! I like the idea of getting into the classes too! I just need to switch gears now and build that mojo back up! 💪🏽❤️
Hi Fabulous! I'm kept busy with my real world C25K graduates and their associated (virtual) WhatsApp groups.
I find time for answering a few HU posts and lurking but still running more than ever. Even got a parkrun PB as fast as my youngest kitten this weekend so he's feeling the pressure to get back into it.
