Calf injury?

Good morning & ouch!!

Please can somebody help or offer advice?

I noticed a niggle in my lower calf whilst running this morning I was attempting 5k, I’m running 5k twice a week plus a long run so I wasn’t doing anything radical my pace was steady. As I hit 4K the pain became a little stronger until eventually a pop! It felt like a cramp I had to stop running, after a couple of mins I could put my weight on it but the ache remains. Does anyone have any suggestions.

I’m going to Conwy at the weekend to take part in the park run, I really want to do it so any suggestions will be appreciated.

Many thanks

I had something similar last year, i could bear weight and walk but going downstairs was agony😖 - i used a support bandage, kept it elevated and put ice on it when i could. It put me out of action for a good week.

Try resting and see how it feels Friday, also some gentle stretches and foam roller when you feel up to it - helps iron out any tightness.

Depending on how bad it feels (only you will know) park run may not be possible on Saturday

Good luck

Don't run at all...a pop is not good..

I had a minor calf tear..12 weeks out from start to finish.

Go get checked out by a sports physio...

I did everything by the book, when 8 first did it.. but after two weeks had to go and see my physio.

Trouble is..everytime you head out it opens any tear up again.

A good physio will give you an accurate diagnosis.

Sorry to sound so like the prophet of doom but, the runs will wait and you risk doing permanent damage.

I agree with Oldfloss. Get checked by a sports physio. You will get a better diagnosis and exercises to strengthen, support, and improve recovery time.

Go private and say it's urgent for the quickest chance of recovery.

I classed mine as a “pull” rather than a “tear” but it was still a fortnight on the IC. I agree with all the above advice, your only parkrunning this weekend should be as a static volunteer I’m afraid.

I agree physio ! Something similar was the start of an exercise regime which has really helped me stay injury free (🤞), so good can come out of this with the right physio.
