Calf injury... so frustrated!

Feeling rather fed up. Back in January I got some new trainers and whilst I was 5 mins into my run I had a cramping pain in my right calf, which wouldn’t run off so had to abandon my run. I’ve never had calf trouble ever, it took 2weeks to heal. Lockdown arrived so started running outdoors and no issues with my calf and then out of the blue whilst not exercising my leg started to tighten and twanged when trying to reach into a cupboard. Been limping all week so unable again to run. Not sure if it’s the trainers or an inflammation but hope it’s not going to keep reoccurring!!!

Sorry not qualified to comment on reason for your injury but I can fully sympathise. Hope you get better soon.

Have you tried stretching and foam roller? Having said that I’ve been using roller on my butt muscles recently and can’t say it’s helping much, but that could partly be the sitting between periods of activity. Hope you get it sorted. 🤗

I always stretch after and still warm up and down for 5 mins. The last injury wasn’t from running as I hadn’t run for a few days. I’ve got some exercises which I’m going to do but hope it’s not the new trainers that have cause it. Not tried the foam roll so will give that a go! Just don’t want it to keep happening and put an end to running 🏃‍♀️

Poor you, such a shame. Why do you think it’s the trainers. Unless they are particularly flat and you’ve been wearing them a lot in lockdown after wearing heals a lot prior to lockdown it seems unlikely.

I’ve been running a couple of years and no issues with calves. Then I get a pair of new trainers and either 2nd or 3rd time of wearing I get this injury Probably coincidence but ...

Yikes, I totally see where you are coming from with this. How horrible for you. I guess you've lost faith in those trainers now. 🥴

It’s just a setback. Not the end of running.

What shoes have you bought and what are the old shoes?

The new trainers are Adidas running trainers and the old ones were Nike running trainers. I’m hoping I can maybe go for a run next Friday. Fingers crossed 🤞

Different shoes have higher or lower heels. It’s called the ‘drop’. Changing to a flatter shoe can cause calf problems.

I gotta say, I’d be tempted to try different trainers. Plus might as well google the new ones to see if anyone else has the same problem.

My running store has a very generous return policy - its like a month or two, even if you’ve tried the shoes. I don’t know how they do it, must be the manufacturer taking the hit. So..... why not just take the shoes back and get your money back?

That’s a good idea I might try that! Thanks for the tip
