I started JuJu’s plan in August (having graduated C25K at Xmas) but then fell whilst doing my 6k run, had to miss a couple of weeks then work pressures meant I couldn’t do the longer runs, although I was still doing 4-5k 3 times a week). Have now got back on track and did 8k last weekend. But I have a 10k race booked for next weekend. So should I do 9k this weekend, consolidate my 8k or (as one of my running buddies advised) taper down to 7/7.5k?

I’m relatively stoical about the race as I know lots of people walk a lot of it but I would like to do my best and am aiming for 1h30m. (My parkrun time is 42.08 but I’m hoping the flat course and the atmosphere will compensate for the extra distance)

What do you think?

I would do 9k this weekend, it will help give you self-confidence for the race.

Then maybe do a gentle 5k a couple of days later and then stick to resting and walking - have nice fresh legs for your 10k!

Good luck and have fun xxx

Your parkrun time suggests that you’re well on target for your 10k aim... normally 10k time isn’t much more than 2x the 5k time. Confidence helps, so I’d look to get that 9k in this weekend before a relaxed week.

Thank you! Now I just have to decide whether to do parkrun and continue for a couple of laps or volunteer then head down to the canal towpath.
