Did my first 10k yesterday in Bangor North Wales. We did it as a family to raise money for Tearfund in memory of my husband who died 2 years ago.

Congratulations. What a great way to honour your husband’s memory and raise money for a great cause... especially doing it as a family.

Well done - sorry that your first 10k was to mark such a sad event, but it is a great achievement and a great way to remember him, especially as a family

Wow! I just clicked on your avatar and see you are 71!!!!! Well done to you! Congratulations! 🎓🍾🥂🏅🏃‍♀️🤸‍♂️🏃‍♀️🤸‍♂️🏃‍♀️🤸‍♂️👏🏻👍🌟 💥⚡️🎉😊

I wonder how many of your family run it together? My congratulations to you all.

How special to raise money for Tearfund, remember your dear husband and run your first 10k all on one day. Amazing!

Thank you so much. There were 5of us running and a pile of others supporting. It was a very special day and I’m actually 73!

I wonder why I typed 71? It clearly states 73 when I just clicked again on your avatar. I do apologise, so even a greater achievement! It certainly sounds a very special day indeed.

I remember reading that there has been a recent-ish C25k graduate in their 80s. It is amazing what our bodies are capable of, isn't it?

So it seems you may have taken up running after your husband died. Oh I do seem full of wonderings this morning! I am now wondering whether your family encouraged you to run or whether it was something you just thought would be a good idea. Whatever the case, all the very best for your onward running journey. And of course, I'm now wondering whether you have any further running plans! 🏃‍♀️🏃🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻🏃🏼‍♀️

I started running when my husband was ill as it was something I could do to clear my head, get some fresh air and exercise. Joined my children a few times on their park run. Having moved from South Wales to North Wales am planning on doing Park run here with my daughter in law.

Hello Bootlean,

I am sorry I missed this reply. You, if you know what I mean, replied to your own post, rather than replying to my reply to your post. Very easily done. When someone replies to a reply that I have sent them, I receive a notification in that little bell outline shape - right hand little icon at the top left of the page, Home, My hub, Chat, bell! Not sure if you are interested in such details. I have found interacting with folk on the running and weight loss forums so encouraging, inspiring, informative and very helpful. Consequently I am slowly finding out more about various things including icons!

How lovely to run with your children and perhaps soon with your daughter-in-law. I have taken part in two parkruns. But having had various breaks in my running, I shall leave the next one, if there is a next one, until I have regained the fitness and form that I had before. If I manage to regain it, that is.

Thank you for telling me how you began running. It sounds like running was a benefit in more than one way.

Happy running to you. 🏃🏼‍♀️😊🌸
