Running on holiday. Does anyone find it a lot harder when running abroad? I am on my 9th holiday

Run and it is getting more difficult

I am getting up early and running at 7 am so that it is as cool as it’s going to get

The terrain is flat and even

Has anyone else experienced this?

I can’t say I have. I’ve had loads of holiday runs and adore them. But then again I know I’m running slower than usual because I’m taking everything in and I usually stop regularly to take lots of photos 🙂

Where are you running? I am based in Cyprus and try to get up early and run into the sunrise turning round so it comes up on my back, if that makes sense. I seem to manage here with heat over the summer well into the 30s. I had a hellish time in Istanbul a few months ago, i think the city air made me a bit wheezy and allergic.

Running in Kos, that’s a good tip will run before sunrise at the moment it is in my face on the way back

Heat can be a problem, especially when it’s a sudden increase like a heatwave or a holiday. Some people pay a fortune for warm weather training holidays of course. For me it’s a case of not comparing the runs with what you were doing just before too much, dropping distance and pace isn’t an issue for a short time, and the factor that those people pay for will still apply, it’ll be easier after the holiday.

Thank you that is encouraging

I’m in Catalkoy Cyprus and I get up v early and do the run whilst the stars are still out and sun just coming up when I running back. I’m wringing with sweat when I get back, so I could not cope with going in the heat of the day. I really love these early morning runs and feel good that I’ve managed to do my running whilst on holiday. Last run tomorrow then back to Pembrokeshire rain!

No, sorry I love to run in the heat - Greece in June, July and September this year was awesome, and so much better than English autumn runs I’m now having to endure but that’s life! Running in Mediterranean light is wonderful and it lifts the spirits no end. First thing in my case now is my running gear. I did some of my C25K in the Peloponnese in June/July, then some of my bridge to 10K there in September and I can’t think of anywhere better to run! Hopefully I’ll be training for a half marathon by the time I go back in June. Happy running now you’re home!
