Started new running course, helped my parkrun!

I went to my first session of a 5-10k course, which involved a timed run, pyramid intervals (tough!) and some silly running games. All very good fun on a lovely sunny morning. We won't know when the long runs will be until on the day (exciting) but homework was a parkrun or similar length run, plus a shorter timed run-walk session. So off I went to parkrun on another sunny morning, and I got a pb, yay! 33.05. Very happy with that, I'm certain is all down to the intervals, which I know are good for me but I don't like so I avoid them. Joining a course means I can't avoid them 😁 Legs are a bit achy (achey?) this morning, so I'll go for a walk later to stretch them out.

Stick to that course, by doing the course you will be able to run a 5K in 30 minutes or less and a 10K in 60 minutes or less.

That would be wonderful if I could! I fully intend to stick with it now, thank you for the support, Al 😊

πŸ‘ πŸƒ I intend to run another 10k on Wednesday, that would be my third. 😊

Shining example! πŸ‘πŸΌ Ugh, those intervals. 😧 Not even a new watch can make them fun, though it’s distracting. I set off this morning but the drizzle almost immediately turned to drenching rain so I just walked & saved the running for later. Large ponds were forming along my route!

The change in weather is breathtaking! A massive rainstorm came over us in the early hours, and I woke up to dark grey skies, now the sun is out again. Hope it brightens up for you!

Ta. Would be nice to have the sun back, but I’ll settle for lack of deluge at this point!

Hi GOG, This sounds an interesting course! Just wondered how you found it? Or is it part of a running club? X

It's part of a local running club, it's well worth looking around in your area to see what there is, they seem to be catering more and more for, shall we say, late starters?! Everyone had to be able to run 5k to do this one, but we were all ages, shapes and sizes and levels of ability.

Great! Thanks - good luck! Xx

I detest intervals, but I guess they are a necessary evil. πŸ™„ Good for you for doing them, and very well done on your latest PB!

What course is this?

grumpyoldgirl profile image
grumpyoldgirl in reply to MuddledGardener

It's with a running group local to me, I did my c25k with them (the first time) and I thought it would help me (stop me from wimping out) if I did 10k with them.

What club is it? Am now doing a 5 to 10k training but trying to diversify to keep me motivated

They're local to me, but I know several groups in my area that do something similar, there's probably one near you.

Yes I have looked up and found a group I like. Will give this a go after my first parkrun

Fab! Glad you found one, you're right, it's all about keeping ourselves motivated. Good luck for that parkrun 😊

Well done on the PB Grumps! Intervals, at my own pace, helped me to build up 5k pace, so I think that you are right. Glad you are enjoying the course πŸ‘

Let's hope I'm still enjoying it when it approaches 10k πŸ˜“ It certainly didn't do your running any harm BC, so fingers crossed 🀞😊

Thank you so much, I just need to stay sensible now and not think I'm superwoman. Not really likely, some of the women on the course went off like whippets!

Well done - sub 33 (32?) soon!

Ooh I was a whisker away JP! I wasn't trying for a pb but realised at the end that I was close, so I put my foot down at the finish. I'm in danger of becoming competitive 😁

Bletch, intervals! But I know they’re helpful and your example reminds me that I need to do some this week! 😩😩

What a fantastic PR time GOG - I bet you’re very proud of that. And how exciting not knowing when your long runs will be! I guess you’ll need to keep sensibly fuelled and hydrated all the time just in case! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Not sure I like the sound of all that sensible hydration cheeky, but I'll do my best. Cheers! πŸ₯‚
