Hydration Tablets - Advice

Hi all I've recently started running more than 10k - I'm up to 12k and I started needing to take water with me. I got some hydration tablets to go in the water from a running shop but I was surprised that they were zero calories. I thought that they'd be combined with some sugar to keep you going.

I've started taking a few jelly babies with me - I don't really feel that I "need" them but I do eat them! I know you can get gels but I would have thought that a tablet would be able to do both things.

As ever any tips for hydration/energy on longer runs most grateful from all the knowledgeable people who've been there before me!

Lots of people suggest Tailwind, I have yet to try it but, like you I am at 12k and thinking about hydration and fueling.

I am going to try dried apricots and I might try Tailwind

Just hydrate well every single day...and if you do that and have a really healthy eating regime you should be absolutely fine. Just take some water, if you feel you need to after 10K. I take a small bottle in my Zikee belt..

Just stay well hydrated in general. I have a good large drink when I get home. I’ve ran up to 15K a few times and didn’t need to bring anything with me.

I’ve run up to 14K and not taken water with me.

I used SIS electrolyte tablets when it was very hot a few weeks ago, and for my long run this week I had plain water in my hydration bladder and Tailwind in a small bottle to sip when I needed a boost beyond 10k. Also jelly babies. 👍

I don’t know if these things help me at all - it might be the placebo effect, but I’d rather err on the side of caution. 🏃‍♀️

Tailwind comes in loads of flavours and I bought a sample pack before committing. So far I quite like the raspberry one. 😀

Watching this with interest as I will be running 12k this week and also approaching the “need to eat/drink” phase.

Lots of people mention Jelly Babies as a good refueller, but as a vegetarian I can’t have those. Is there a non-gelatine option?

I've thought about Percy Pigs from M&S which are now all veggie and would be a good shape to carry because they wouldn't get squashed 🐷
