What more could I ask for? - This motley crew gathered together to celebrate my 50th parkrun today.
It was a lovely morning - the sun shone and the wind was not as strong as forecast at the beginning of the week. UpTheStanley and I met up with cheekychipmunks first- she was wearing her apricot tourist T-shirt with a parrot and sword. Then we walked to parkrun prom where JonathanP was standing tall amongst other parkrunners in his pirate hat. A striped shirt added after the run. Mr and Mrs Coddfish then arrived. They had too embraced my request to run as pirates with bandanas and everyone earned their VRB meet up badges - a tradition started by Runningroni . It has to be said that Mr Coddfish really looked the part in his outfit, including gold earring and unshaven face. UpTheStanley had more hair than he is used to!
There were 4 of us doing 50th runs and one 60th birthday at parkrun today .
I said everyone should run at their own pace and JonathanP took the lead while the rest of us stayed with Coddfish for a while then ran at cheeky pace. I had the parrot balloon on a short leash as it wanted to go itβs own way. Lots of comments from other runners along the route and lots of children waving .
No attempt at PBs but the group of 4 came in at 38:32, which is better than my first parkrun.
Lots of cake was handed out, with chocolate brownies being favourite and then we headed for a chatty breakfast in The Briny.
I am so grateful to my friends who helped me celebrate today, especially cheeky who got up at a ludicrous time and travelled from Bristol to be here. Thanks to everyone on the forum too for their good wishes. You are a lovely lot.
It was well worth the early start Dexy! Iβm so glad I came along and I love Southsea PR. β€οΈ What a lovely run and how fabulous to meet more VRBs. π
Despite the delightful breakfast I still had to get lunch, so here I am at Membury Services again!
You earned it cheeky, and you are welcome here any time. I think you may have some better photos on your phone, so if you can send copies in slow time I would be grateful. π
Congratulations to you Dexy on completing your 50th parkrun this morning, in that wonderful photo you all look like the characters in the operatta by Gilbert and Sullivan, The Pirates of Penance, well done especially to Cheeky who travelled all that distance from Bristol to be with you for your 50th,onwards and upwards to parkrun No, π―. π π
Thanks Al, we did catch a lot of attention, especially in the restaurant afterwards. JonathanP did his 42nd today so it will be good to celebrate his 50 in a few months time.
Thanks Debston. One of our running clubs is often setting a fancy dress theme for anniversary runs, so I wanted this one to be different too. It brought a smile to many seeing us running as pirates. How many have you done now?
It's a great idea, I love a bit of fancy dress - have yet to try running in costume! I think I am on 6 Parkruns now. Had a vague plan to go this morning but overslept and didn't make it! Next weekend...
Yes thereβs always another one next week. On that you can depend. There wasnβt much give in my shirt, which was a fashion item in the 80s, with knickerbockers ππ
π Impressed you can still get into it, let alone run in it. I had a very similar one which I teamed with red velvet knickerbockers or occasionally a ra-ra skirt... I looked quite the business, or so I thought!
It was great to share in the celebrations for your 50th parkrun Dexy - what a fantastic occasion! I lost count of the number of 'well done pirate' comments from other runners - perhaps I should wear the hat more often! Lovely also to meet cheekychipmunks after exchanging many messages on the forum. Today was my 42nd parkrun - so not too long for my 50th!ππ
So lovely to see you again too and a sub 30 again I see. We will be there for your 50th JonathanP - October 26th? November 2nd? Or later, just let us know. Many other outfits in the fancy dress box ππ
Well done to you Pirate Runny People! Wonderful! Many congratulations Pirate Dexy on your 50, yikes! Yes 50 amazing parkruns!!! Simply beyond impressive!
Thank you so much over61. It was so much fun running with friends and not thinking about a PB. Having done 15k during the week, I was still working to run at cheeky pace. Now for an easy week before a race next Sunday.
How are you and your lovely garden coming along? Are you still doing short trots?
Hello Dexy, All fine here thank youπ All the very best for your easy week and race. And all the very best for your race! I hope it meets and beats all your expectations, enjoy every moment! π I am still with my 2.2km up and 2.2km down intervals run once a week ( no other running at the moment) and still gardening before breakfast but loads of other things going on too. I am spending more time on the Weight Loss forum than the running ones and am pleased to have lost 9 lbs π Some folk have lost over 8 stone!! If you weigh out a dish and add contents to make it up to 9lbs it is lovely to think that I am not carrying that around any more. I'm part of the Monday Mass Movers group, I confess that I had too many commitments to join in properly yesterday. Happy running to you and UTS πββοΈππ½π
Thatβs brilliant weight loss over61. Well done. And a little bit of running is better than none. Thank you for your best wishes - we are looking forward to the New Forest π²π²πββοΈπ³πββοΈπ²π³
Thatβs fab Dexy! So pleased there was a lot of HU support there for you π€ Well done everyone ππ₯³
Two of our GoodGymers are getting married next week so many ran in wedding gear at ours today - including the bride and groom in dress and suit/tie and our real running vicar in his dog collar π€£
Iβd cycled there, so wore usual gear and ran my 41st today, but will be 2 behind JP by the time of my 50th (9th November) because Swindon is cancelled on 14th Sept and I have work booked in.
Thanks Equi. Glad to hear you are parkrunning again. You must celebrate your 50th in style. I love the celebrations at parkrun- weβve had a few proposals too. Have you got your purple shirt already?
Not quite - I think I am up to mid-teens now. Thereβs always some confusion over my Parkrun number because there are 3 of us with the same name registered for Swindon π Iβm the only one that shows up recently though. Just sometimes I donβt notice, canβt be bothered or am too busy to ask for a correction π€£
You guys are the best! I love the costumes, the huge smiles and just the amazing camaraderie that is felt in the picture! Congrats on a great milestone there Dexy5 and having fun while doing it with some awesome peeps!
We went into town this afternoon. It was cool, breezy, and we had some wet stuff but it blew over and ended up sunny and hot so we HAD to stop at the Dirty Duck for a drink! ππΊ
Congratulations Dexy πππ Shiver me timbers if you havenβt gone and completed your 50th parkrun. Sorry I couldnβt be there but glad you had your merry band of (V)RBs to walk the plank with you xx
I am sure we will have just as much fun at the GSR Sandie. No fancy dress for the 10 miles for me though, I donβt want any handicaps. Lots of others will do though.
Many thanks for your landlubbing 5k Oldfloss. And Iβm sure youβll do brilliantly at the Spitfire 10k tomorrow, especially with all your badges to cheer you on. Have fun. βοΈπββοΈπ
An excellent exploit! The most smiley bunch of pirates I have ever seen. ππππ΄ββ οΈπ΄ββ οΈπ΄ββ οΈπ¦ I was with you in spirit, trotting across the local fields while the washing machine laboured at home to recover from one trip away and be ready for the next one on Monday. If anything would encourage me to try Parkrun, itβs your splendid example!
Thank you Granspeed, I do hope you give it a try. It is a bit addictive though, my 50 runs are since the end of May 2018. Only injury, volunteering, holidays and weddings have stopped me. I hope we see you in the New Forest next weekend - we will not be dressed like this!
We get back from France on Saturday evening so as long as the Travel Gods are on our side, weβll see you! Pm me your numbers and a thought about likely finishing time - there are always zillions there. ππππΌββοΈππ»ββοΈ
Brunhilda has been proved to work . Hopefully she might also draw in SlowLoris who has the responsibility for us entering this one in the first place β¦.
πWe wonβt arrive until about 11:30 so I think weβll miss cheering you in π§ but we will look for you as we arrive. Our marathon gals donβt expect to be back until after 14:00, so we will be cruising the scene. Hope you arenβt rushing off!
I'm hoping for sub-55, Dexy for sub-75, so given a 10:25 start your arrival time might split the difference! We plan to hang around and enjoy the atmosphere after our races, so every chance of meeting I think
Congratulations on your 50th parkrun it is such an amazing achievement and you were able to share it with friends. So once again congratulations πππππ
Thanks Bridget. There was a group of pirates at Poole parkrun in June and I decided thatβs what I wanted to do for my milestone parkrun. It was fun. I think Iβm just a child at heart.
Just found your post!! Brilliant day Dexy5. Congrats on your half century. Best motley crew and inflatable parrot assembled in naval history oooo arrrrrr and chocolate brownie too!!!...π¦π¦π¦
Huge congratulations Dexy5. Well done on your 50th parkrun and well done to everyone else. Iβm delighted for you. I love the pics. Iβll be celebrating mine next weekend and Iβm looking forward to it.
Many thanks damienair. I hope you enjoy your 50th just as much. Itβs great to see the red shirt appear against your name on the results page ! Itβs TailChaser βs 50th next week too. What fun.
Brilliant Dexy! What a fabulous morning and a brilliant way to celebrate your 50th! Well done everyone in getting down there, I wish we could have joined you. Itβs quite something when you realise how far you have run to do 50 Parkruns! Brilliant ππππ΄ββ οΈπ¦π΄ββ οΈππππ
Was slightly surprised that Mr Cβs outfit survived the washing machine. I thought it would either disintegrate or leak bright red over the white. So theoretically he could do it all over again. Even more surprised that he managed to get changed for the Sailing Club regatta before anyone saw him.
I must say it was nice running my 8k today in normal technical clobber.
Iβm sure the opportunity to be a pirate will occur again Coddfish and mr C looked the perfect part. I wonder if someone found his earring. Well done on your 8k - I hope the cool breeze was behind you.
Missed your milestone post Dexy, didnβt realise how reliant Iβve become on wifi, being on the move so much, Well done on your 50th and what a fabulous photo of you all. πππ»
