Unplanned but enjoyed my 8.67k

So I have ran 8k twice and was planning to do a few more 8ks on Sundays before adding five mins. This weekend I had a trip away, eating tonnes of bad (but delicious) foods and knew I wanted to get back on track today. However, feeling a tonne heavier, I started off with doubts about doing my 8k. I was wondering if 5 or 6k would be enough for now after my over indulgence! But low and behold not only did I do my 8k but did an exact extra 5 mins (total 8.67k in 62 mins).

I'm pleased as adding just five mins is part of the Ju Ju plan! And I enjoyed my run so much! Longer runs are so good! Its crazy how at the start you doubt yourself but once into it you just want to go and go!

I am a little uncertain how to add time to build up to 10k? At the moment I use Mapmyfitness and it tells me each km I do so I know when it tells me I've reached 4k I can turn around and it will be 8k once I get home..... I don't really want to set it to tell me every half km. If 8k takes me about 57 mins (give or take) do I ... As I am running... Set a timer alarm for 5 mins, 10mins etc starting from 8km?

You might need to choose to focus either on time or distance and then let the other take care of itself. Ju-Ju’s Plan has 2 versions, one by distance & one by time. Have a look at both and then you could choose one to prioritise. The point is a gradual progression to avoid injury, so whichever way you do it, the guidelines will keep you from over-extending in any particular week if you need an out & back guide and are doing time, just set your timer for the halfway time to warm you to turn. Most apps will do this, tho’ I haven’t used Map My Fitness.

Yeah I was going to do it by time. Its just by chance I ended up doing the bit extra by distance instead. On Sunday coming I will try setting my timer and doing it that way! See how that goes!

If you've already run 8.67k you're nearly at the end of the 10k programme anyway. you could just jump in at the end, you're only a bit less than 1.4km away.

Could you add your time for 1K onto your current run and if the walk back is a bit longer than normal, I'm sure your legs will appreciate it, mine were a bit tight after my first 10k and I needed the warm down walk a bit more

just a suggestion!

I mean, add the time for 1km onto your "out" run, and then walk the extra bit back

hope I am making sense lol

I know I am so close! I wasn't intentionally aiming for 10k but after doing 7k regularly and then 8k I realised I am not far off so decided to come over to this forum! I used to set my timer for, say, 20 minutes after the five min walk. Then when the alarm goes, turn around and go back and end on the same five min walk. I guess I will continue to add to my time this way! Very exciting! I can't wait to start doing 10k regular!
