Another Sunday adventure!

I do love my Sunday adventures with Mr. Squiggy - I never quite know what will happen next!

Today we had the usual pigeons to chase, of course ;) but also a tandem, tractor with huge bales (good excuse to pause and stretch), a mystery trail (am I lost?), deadly brambles and a crazy black terrier (who really was a terror!). Oh, and an unexpected horse!

Bit of a later start today since it was a bit cooler and also because I woke up late (we had a late night because I was singing in a choir). It was a lovely morning, not too warm but dry and a little wind. Off down the usual trail along the old railway line, gentle start since I was feeling a little weary. No plan really, just see how I feel. As I jog along I begin to think where to go. Shall I try for a little bit further than last week? Yes, of course! So instead of turning left at the pretty village I turned right down the lane which I thought would eventually lead to the sea. It was a bit further than I thought so when I spotted a sign post leading off into a wood I decided to explore. I saw two dog walkers and asked one if I was going in the right direction - just keep going she said! Great track through the wood (see photo). Rather narrow and uneven with tree roots and low branches to watch out for and 'killer' brambles - one pulled my hat off and caught in my hair (ouch!). Eventually we came out into a narrow lane. Ah, I think I know where I am! Boosted by the flat, even surface and slight downhill we speeded along. We then turned off into another wooded track running along side a field which took us to a level crossing. Over the track - no trains, too early for the first train of the day, and we were back on our usual trail!

I really did enjoy my run today - 13k, so creeping ever closer to my goal of 10 miles :)

PS Sorry Squiggy is a bit blurred!

Yes, it came up behind us on our usual track, no bell! Luckily managed to grab Squiggy as they went past!

I think the word is 'lovely'.. I really enjoyed reading that.. Thanks for sharing Sue.

Thank you, I like sharing my runs with the lovely folk on this forum 😀

Enjoyed reading your post of your 13k and Mr Squiggy 😃. Do you have a jogging leash that goes around your waist or what do you use? I’m thinking of getting one for my dog but am unsure x

You can see in the photo he is wearing a Canicross harness and has a 'bungee' lead attached to my harness (zero dc Canicross harness). It is designed so the pull goes around the hips/bottom, much better than a waist belt if your dog pulls hard. 😀

What a great run! Squiggly looks like a lively kind of pooch! There should be an 'I Spy ' book for runners like the ones from childhood. I'm sure a tandem would be one of those elusive ones with several points that you're just hoping to glimpse one day! 13k is definitely 'wow' too!

Ha, ha - what a good idea, I remember those eye-spy books. I reckon I could tick off quite a few unusual items! Perhaps we should create a post 'What's the most unusual thing you have seen on your runs?' 😄

The most incongruous thing I've seen was a couple of llamas (or maybe alpacas?) by the canal!

Squiggy would definitely like the look of those! ;)

They started printing the I-Spy books again a couple of years ago, but they also seem to have disappeared again.

I love the idea of one for runners. In fact, I’m now imagining a whole range of them, like the recent grown up Ladybird titles.

Sounds lovely. Apart from the brambles - OUCH!

Yes, I did say 'ouch' and Squiggy turned round to see what was happening 😄

Bless him. When I fell over yesterday, Merlin immediately stopped and checked in with me.

Totally fine today thanks, went over on my ankle, but walked it off and finished my run - albeit a shorter one than planned.

That looks like a great place to run! So pretty. It sure Mr Squiggy had a great time, as did his master. You’re creeping ever so close to the 10mile. With gorgeous scenery like that, you’ll be able to do it, no problem.

I am so lucky, there are miles and miles of tracks, trails, footpaths and open moorland here in West Somerset 😀. While washing up tonight I have been planning my route for tomorrow - out onto the moor I think 😊
