When you wake up to a view like this how can you not get out to explore the holiday surroundings?
Summer running since the end of all things school has been a pretty relaxed affair - therapeutic leisurely 5-10ks - and as I ran 10k on Thursday I thought this morning's run (after travelling down to Cornwall yesterday) would just be a short jogette to get my bearings.
The place we're staying is blissful. A converted hayloft that manages to combine being within easy reach of everything Penwith has to offer and completely off the beaten track at the same time. 10 minutes by car to the east is Newlyn (lovely stoll in the evening sunshine looking out to St Michael's Mount and fish at my favourite Cornish restaurant yesterday) and 10 minutes by car to the west is St Just (lovely Cape Cornwall, Kurt Jackson Gallery and the BEST pasties at some point no doubt).
Anyway cutting back to the running it seems I don't really have any bearings as I failed to find a footpath I believe exists covered nearly 7k rather than the 4k planned and had to run a short stretch on a main road - that said only saw two cars a lady on a horse (twice) and two cyclists across the whole distance and lots of rabbits and butterflies and several of those Cornish stone styles and masses of flowers a deserted mine and a water filled quarry. It was lovely!
So bearings better than they were and running legs feeling good. Potential hilly nature of runs (we're in a valley) has inspired me to join the August Strava climbing challenge - though this may prove an ambitious and cavellier holiday decision.
Looking forward now to a good breakfast and some walking 😁.
Happy running everyone!
