Did anyone see the above programme on BBC1 last night which was all about Park Runs with Dame Kelly Holmes? If you didn’t watch it on catch up! I thought it was brilliant and captured the essence of Park Runs superbly.
For anyone contemplating doing them but not yet taken that first step I’m sure watching the programme will push you over the abyss.
I’m doing the 1st timers Briefing at mine again this week. I suspect there may be an increase of participants!
Sub Note! Haven’t had time to report on my Park Run on Saturday which I did with my daughter. She was awesome and managed her fastest 5K at 30.35 smashing me by 36 secs although I got my fastest Park Run time of 31.11!
I was gloating a little last week that my first 10K beat her first 10K by 4 mins! Rapidly coming to the conclusion that her runs are on more difficult terrain than mine, so I might not be faster after all! 😭

I'm going to be watching it with my lunch today (early lunch break I think!) My run isn't on this week which is a shame, as I imagine numbers would have picked up (not that we are lacking!)
It was fab Chris. Dame Kelly is such an inspiration and such an ambassador for Parkrun. Declan at the end made your heart ache. Unfortunately it’s only those who are interested who will watch it and be inspired. I know it’s better than nothing and maybe I’m being a little harsh, but there are so many out there who need a good kick up the proverbial (and I’m related to a few!).
Dame Kelly visited our Parkrun at the start of the year and her smile was with us for months afterwards. She also left her mark on our Strava feed as she ran one of our segments near the hotel she was staying at - I think it’s been a challenge for many round here since!
WOW! That is cool! However I think you may be surprised! Prime time television. Summer Months, School holidays. As I said earlier I’m doing our 1st Timers Briefing this Saturday! I will ask the question anyway out of interest!
It is disheartening when those we care about are reluctant to join in something so magical as parkrun and running in general but don’t lose heart. It takes all sorts of things to happen until the lightbulb comes on. Until then keep enjoying what you do and who knows who you will inspire. There’s a elderly lady I used to see most mornings running on the sea front when I was out walking. She doesn’t know it but she was part of my inspiration. One day I will be fast enough to tell her. 😊🏃🏻♀️
As for the programme it made me cry and laugh with happiness for them all. 😊
I saw the programme and loved it, especially as it covered a place near my area (Strabane, Co. Tyrone). Park Runs are great! And well done for your PB, that's brilliant - I'm not there yet, (clocked up 32.30 last week). Still, that's 6 mins faster that last year, and the runanniversary isn't for another two weeks. Might get there one day.
Well done you - and you are right to gloat on the 10k. In your shoes, I'd dine out on that achievement for months!
It was a fab programme and Kelly Holmes is just amazing. My inspiration award goes to the old lady she ran with - I think she was 93 and still going strong ❤️
A brilliant programme but I was disappointed it didn’t mention c25k as a means of getting to 5k. The bbc usually promote it when showing races. However, if you look at the couch to 5k forum , someone knows the lady in the programme and she did c25k to do the parkrun. She inspired others to join us. Brilliant. Yes it made me cry and I just loved that 91 year old lady - she wasn’t going to be seen on the tv walking!
