Taking advantage of the slightly cooler temperature today and with an eye on my plans for a third Great South Run in the autumn๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ and maybe another HM 'some time after'๐ฎ๐ , today was my long run day and the first time I had planned to go further than 10k for ages! Having asked others about Tailwind on here last week, I have bought In a starter pack of different flavours - choosing the lemon today (very nice!). I have also recently bought a Salomon soft water bottle, so that was on its first outing too!I started my run on the quiet local pavements before moving on to my local (and very lovely) trails. I was lucky enough to see a couple of deer โค๏ธ again today - there must be a lot in the local area as I see them so regularly just now. ๐ I soon settled in to a steady pace that would get me through the longer distance and hopefully not leave me struggling towards the end! Loved my new soft water bottle - (no sloshing sound and easy to drink out of). I think the Tailwind suited too - I had taken some of my Power Flapjack in case I got hungry but the Tailwind was enough.
Yes, my legs were feeling it a bit at the end but when I looked at my splits, my last km was my fastest, so that might explain why! Back home and feeling chuffed that my endurance is building up again. Happy running everyone.๐

Well done Sandraj39, that sounds an excellent run. Iโve been using zero tabs in water before and after running, but nothing during the run. Is tailwind like a sweet gel or something to put in your water? It would be great to see you at the Great South Run with cheeky, and UTS. What was your time last year?
Hi Dexy - I've never used gels, don't really like the sound of them. ๐คข You add Tailwind to your water. Basically, it's a carbohydrate and electrolyte mix and has a reputation for being gentler on your stomach than gels. They come in various flavours including 'Naked'! The sachets I bought make up between 500-750ml of drink. I made up about 650ml today but only carried about 200ml with me (and I guess I drank about 150ml max!) My husband is running later today so plenty left for him if he chooses! I think I will make up half a sachet next time.
A meet up at GSR would be great - although last time I arranged one I didn't make it due to time and toilet queues etc. I ran the GSR in 2016 in 1:35:13. Last year, following a long, slow come back from nerve damage in my left leg (excuses, excuses!) a much slower 1:44:20. I am hoping that this year it will be somewhere in between! ๐x
Thatโs good, I havenโt got to that distance yet but it will be at least 2 hours . The main thing for me is to actually complete something that I have watched in awe for years. I still canโt believe Iโm a runner ๐โโ๏ธ
Great stuff Sandra (no sloshing sound and easy to drink out of). I'm starting to think I should have done some water bottle research. ๐
I went for an early morning road run, still half asleep, and a massive stag came bounding out of the bushes straight past me. It was absolutely huge! I was wide awake after that. ๐ฒ
Very well done Sandra! ๐๐ Ok, now I need to buy a starter pack of Tailwind to try in my new hydration vest. Is there no end to the stuff you can buy for running?! ๐ ๐
Iโm doing the GSR too, as Dexy already mentioned! Very exciting! ๐๐โโ๏ธ
I โค๏ธ The Great South Run! And you're right, I always think there must be some magical piece of equipment or product to buy that will transform me in to an Olympic athlete๐๐....I am still looking! (I too have a hydration vest - haven't got round to using it yet!)๐
Ooo give it a go Sandra. I used my new one for the first time on Thursday and wonโt be without it for all future long runs! Amazing piece of kit. ๐๐
Oh well done Speedy Sandra ๐ Isn't it lovely to have cooler weather? It started to drizzle yesterday just before my run and it brought a big smile to my face. That's a speedy run you've done and it shows you're well prepared for the GSR.
I'm experimenting with fuel on long runs atm and have found that I don't actually need as much as I think. I did a 15K on only water a while back (although that was a mistake not a planned run ๐) and felt absolutely fine so I've been eating less and less and seem to be getting away with it. Mind you I'm not as speedy as you so maybe Tailwind might improve my times ๐ xxx
