I graduated couch25k back in May and I have been doing 5k or 6k runs, three times and week and loving it. What I have noticed is that I can't seem to get enough of Marmite. To the point where I'm spooning it out if the jar! I never really bothered with it before I started running. Should I be concerned, I am sweating a lot whilst running but I haven't noticed anything else odd and I am generally healthy. Anyone else have this craving or any other food craving?

Sounds like you are losing a lot of salt and the Marmite is helping to replace it. Guessing there is some kind of salt supplement out there, but hoping someone can put that into a more scientific context.

My body is telling me to eat more carbs, which I am trying to avoid, so it's a constant battle
When I lived in Sicily, when it was really hot in the summer, there would be kiosks selling Selz ( freshly squeezed lemon juice, seltzer water (sparkling) and a pinch of salt ) It's just perfect after a run, very refreshing and not too sweet
Sounds delish. 😊 I shall try this (even without a trip to Sicily, which we loved but went in April!)
I used to live in Sicily too. 6 months in Catania then 3.5 years in Palermo. Loved it there. I miss the food, the sunshine and the beautiful beaches.
I have mixed emotions. I loved the place itself, the beaches, the sunshine, but there were a lot of personal things that made it not a good place for me. I lived in Giardini Naxos near Taormina.
We spent a month there last year and tripped all over. Amazing place, so different to Italy. In the entire month we only heard 5 English voices.
I've been using Electrolyte plus from company My protein. I do drink lots of water but I sweat a lot so I take 2 of these after a run
I use zero tablets in water the day before and after my run to make sure I’m well hydrated and replace lost salt and minerals. I’m not sure I could eat marmite by the spoonful. 😬
I am thinking it could be due to the loss of salt. I'm going to take a look at some electrolyte tablets.
I pop a SIS electrolyte tablet in my water bottle when doing a long run, and if it’s warm I’ll use them before and after too. But I can totally see why you’d love spooning Marmite. It’s delicious! 😋😋😋
I read an article about all the ‘sports water drinks’ and basically they just add salt to the water. The salt stops you peeing so much as it makes the water stick inside your body(there is a scientific explanation but I can’t remember😂) So now I just sprinkle some sea salt into my water and I don’t need the loo constantly and don’t feel dehydrated, maybe this could help your marmite addiction 😉
