Just over 6km, make that 7, go for 7.5, an extra hill and that makes 8!

Couldn’t do Parkrun this weekend so went out with the local group today. Earlier this week I did intervals (thought I would run/jog them using W1R1, but it was too knackering so actually ran/walked). So I knew I needed to do a slow easy run. Went to the back of the group and was paced by the fabulous group leader. All but 1km was over 7 mins and suddenly the run was easy again. I have felt like I was struggling recently. I think I was just going too fast, which is fine but hard work. 8km done by running to and from the run plus adding in my pet hill. That leaves 15km per week for the rest of June to stay on target 🎯 for 700km this year.

I managed the run without getting rained on so that pleased me 😁

Nice! I think sometimes we’re always pushing to go faster and further the body says Nope! That’s enough. I’m glad you got a nice easy run in that felt better. I’ve found the runs this week harder than they should have been so really focused on just enjoying my run today and not pushing it. Of course I was still breathing hard (it was a trail run) but the legs maybe didn’t feel as heavy as friday’s run. My pace was crap but that’s A-ok!

I've read that 80% of runs should be slow easy ones and just 20% pushing it!

That sounds a bit more like it Baddie, glad you're getting your mojo back 😊

Is that a birthday cake in there? I always threatened to have a summer birthday as well, like the Queen 😄

Well done! Slow, easy runs are just the ticket sometimes. Love that you have a ‘pet hill’! 😂

Brilliant BTP, you gave your legs just what they needed! Can't be racing around all of the time. What does a hill have to be to qualify as a pet? Hard enough to give you a sense of achievement by making it to the top but not so hard as to do lasting damage? Not planning to adopt one any time soon!! 🌋

Nearby and easy to stagger home from after running reps up it 😁

I love the idea of a “pet hill” 🙂

That sounds a fab run, good for you.

Sadly not ☹️ I live in Wilthsire now and when I go home to visit mum it's Northern Ireland so a wee way from you 😕 Are you going to Irish-John 's meet at the Giants Causeway next year?

Sunday morning at 10:30 if you want to join us, or any time by previous arrangement if you fancy a run round this area with me 😀

Thanks, probably not Sundays unless we have to miss a parkrun for some reason. But it would be good to run with you sometime.

Baddie, if you come to Marple parkun next Saturday you can run as slowly as you like because I will be the Tailwalker.

NB: for new or aspiring parkrunners - you can always run as slowly as you like, or even walk (I believe skipping happens on the junior parkuns!). They are runs, not races.

The job of the Tailwalker is to come in last, so never worry about being left behind.

Not sure when I'm next at Marple Parkrun. Will look out for you though.

it's funny how a small increase can sometimes makes things uncomfortable especially if you are tired or just back from IC or anything. Probably why the NRC coaches always say to check in with oneself during each run. Well done you on a very respectable 8km!
