New Running Shoes 😀

Last August (I think) I bought my first pair of gait checked running shoes.

Because of my wide feet I ended up with a pair of New Balance 860 v8.

After around 700k in them it was off back to the same shop with a 20% discount in hand to buy a new pair of runners.

With a bit of chat I was left realising how much I still needed to learn. I was asked how I had faired with the shoes. I explained my initial problems with transitioning to them and then that until recently all had been ok but I had picked up a blister after some longer runs.

I was told that it was probably because the shoes needed to be replaced - she then took my old shoes in her hands and bent them in half.

She brought out a new pair of exactly the same shoe (v9) and showed me the bend achievable in them!!

So it would seem that the blister was because the support that the shoes should be able to give was not possible and my for was rolling inwards. Doh!! I just hope that it does not take me 2 months to transition to this new pair now!

What amazed me most was how quickly I managed to sort out a pair of shoes - normal shoes it can take me hours! I was in and out within 15 minutes!!

Looking forward to trying them out.

Nice shoes, never really looked at the New Balance range, I've seen them in places like SportDirect but never paid much attention to them.

I thought I read somewhere that around 400k was the change point? Beyond that support starts to drop.

Thanks for that - a runners world link (a bit old now) days 300-500 miles which is about 500-800 km. Massive gap! Other sites seem to suggest 400 miles to 500 miles.

I think the point is it's a rough guide and you need to use dinner other logic to figure out when to replace them.

Going to monitor the bend over the next few months to see if this is a valid check or not.

20% discount is always welcome. I’m sure you’ll notice the difference with the new running shoes Richard. My first pair wore out quicker than I expected and I started to have sore feet after running. But everything is hunky dorey again with the new ones. I’ve never had to break them in though.

I am hoping it was just the last pair because I was transitioning from the WRONG ones!!

Ooh new shoes, how lovely! I wish you lots of happy runs in them. I go by mileage and “feels”. With my last pair of On Cloudflyers, I could feel when they had lost their boing. Then I was like Zebedee in my new ones! 😂
