Looking at the stats on previous runs I see that I run at about a 150 cadence and dividing distance by number of steps I’ve worked out my average pace length is 85cm. I take about 5800 steps on a Parkrun
So far, so good. This means that to achieve a 35 minute I need to up cadence to 165. That’s feasible. But to get to 30 minutes would mean 195!! Please someone tell me I’ve got that wrong.

Thank you. I read on a previous post that trying to lengthen stride can end in doing yourself a mischief. Let’s hope it lengthens by itself the fitter I become.
no idea hated maths at school...thank god I will just agree with whatever the maths bods say...but guess that you mean staying at your same length stride which would be a speedy leg action so fast it would look like a blur would you not go into a longer one when faster as otherwise your little feet could not keep up?
Go slowly when increasing cadence as the injury risk is high. Think about taking lots of baby steps and try running on the spot.
I've practised with this a lot over the years and have found that although I've got a high cadence I can adjust my running speed and keep the cadence the same just my shortening or lengthening my stride slightly. Try it and see. But be careful you don't over stride as this is a short road to the IC 😩
Don't worry too much about the cadence thing, it's different for all of us and will naturally increase the more training you put in.
I do fun runs - just set off, often a new route and don’t turn back until I feel the fuel tank’s a third empty. And I also do runs against my clock to increase stamina. If I can do 5km in 30 minutes by my runniversary, I’ll be as chuffed as a squirrel’s nuts.
I’m with misswobble, I have all this data at my finger tips from Mr Garmin, but at the end of the day I just run according to the weather and how the body is feeling. But I do find at parkrun that looking at the person ahead of you and trying to gradually catch them up is the best way of increasing your pace. 🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♂️
