The heavy-legged shuffle, aka ‘running’

Lordy Lordy, that was hard work. The heart rate graphic is shown in red, which is spot on - the scarlet blood was whoosh whooshing in my ears and it was mouth agape the whole way.

It was a day of rushing about, school run, work, then more rushing, then shopping, then an unexpected visitor and it wasn’t until 6pm that I had a chance to go out for a run. I was feeling knackered and hungry and I think I’m coming down with something, but felt I must get out there and reestablish the running pattern...

I ran for 27 minutes, covering 4.15km and walked for 3 minutes over half a dozen short spells. It was hard work from the first step; my legs felt sluggish and my breathing laboured. But I told myself that just being out there, however ungainly and painful, were steps in the right direction. Instead of turning for home at a convenient point, I pushed on and added an extra loop. Then another.

It’s not just fitness; I think we lose a little confidence in our ability when we step away for a little while. Thankfully, C25K taught me some valuable lessons... such as being kind to yourself... expecting and accepting ‘bad’ runs... lessons which haven’t been entirely lost - although my pacing has gone to pot again!

Just... keep... running...

well done for getting out there after a hard day! 👍 with that perseverance your BPM will be reducing in no time and your pace going up, though 4.15 in 27 minutes isn't too shabby at all. If you're coming down with something maybe make sure you do treat yourself kindly though, don't be doing too many 'ungainly and painful' steps. 😊

I hope the next run will be in more comfortable circumstances ktsok and that whatever you're coming down with doesn't last long.

We were both out today, I was home by 06.45 having set out for a leisurely 35 minutes.

I ingested some small, white, flying critters that hovered over the cow parsley 🤢.

When I got home I checked my max bpm, 162 (not bad for an old bird)

Yours confirms that you found it tough, did you drink enough I wonder!!???

It's hard to fit in adequate fluids when rushing about, I did the same yesterday, then tried to squidge in a litre on my drive home from work, not a great idea as it turned out, got stuck in a massive traffic jam, 40 minute commute took 2 and 3/4 hours😱😱 (bladder alert).

I love the Just..keep..running mantra.

I will modify it to Just.. drink...plenty..of..water💧💧💧but not all at once 😊😚

Well done for getting out and doing it and when doing it, pushing yourself a bit more. You are still doing it therefore you are officially amazing 😉

Hey ktsok! Gosh, it would be understandable if you didn’t run given the circumstances, but you did and that’s brilliant. That’s the kind of determination that got us from the couch. Well done you!! Fantastic job!! ❤️
