Hi guys !! Just a quick one here , has anyone had experience with 'stability' running shoes re pronation and any improvements to their running style that were made after buying them ? Did any calf pain, for example, dissipate after a short time using them ?No real problems with lefty at all, but righty has never quite been right ?!?! Nothing more than soreness after upping the pace on tempo runs a couple of times but I feel that my right foot rolling inwards some what is the cause of my problems.

I over pronate on one leg!
After a while out due to problems associated with this, my physio told me to start again, enabling my legs to adjust to the new (corrected) running position.
I got Hoka Arahi 2 trainers as advised by the physio.
Not especially pretty, but they got me to 10k.
Years ago I was in agony with my calves. Mainly the left but the right wasn’t great either. I had to stop running and it took months to fully settle. But once they were better I got properly gait assessed on a treadmill, and I’ve never had pain since...fingers crossed!
I had to get into an ice bath after running to ease the pain!
I have Hoka Cavu. I got these as a result of gait analysis as it was deemed stability for my right foot was the requirement. (I was doing an odd sort of rolling twist on placement) I am super comfortable in them. They look bit chunky perhaps but I think theyve helped my gait.
Within the first couple of weeks of C25K I had lots of pain in my legs but also I could feel my ankles rolling inwards, especially the right. I got some stability running shoes and it made an instant difference. I got Mizuno Wave Inspire, mostly because they come in a wide fitting and I have very fat feet 😂

I changed to supportive shoes a year ago. I also started running with a midfoot rather than heel strike. Result - stopped suffering from bruised heels but got calf problems for a while. Then I ran without my insoles once and b*****d my Achilles!
It’s all settled down now, but my main advice would be not to force a change of running style on yourself - and do get a proper gait analysis before splashing out on expensive shoes!

I had repeat calf injuries on C25k. I went to a proper running shop who pointed out the obvious ...I have excellent breast stroke feet, which means they are fastened to my legs at an outward pointing angle! That is where the over pronation came from. I bought 361 degrees sensations 2 and have now got sensations 3. I didn't need a higher level of stability (I was told that too much can itself cause a problem). After two weeks rest, the calf problem disappeared. That was about 10 months ago. I have had a recent calf problem, but that was related to longer distances etc etc and I have done strength exercises to get on top of that. I will always buy stability shoes. I have not tried to alter my running style. I occasionally reduce stride length from my average 1 metre if I feel I am coming down too hard on my heel; that is just a do it by feel thing as I run. My every day exercises are aimed at strengthening ankles and calves in particular, which I guess is about building muscle to provide more stability to cope with my innate construction defect😊 Hope you sort your problem quickly.

Like Jell6, I’m neutral on my left leg but my right leg collapses inwards, I was getting pain in my knees and lower back and dreading going for a run, I had my gait analysed at a running shop and came away with hoka arahi 3, after years of wearing Saucony support shoes, to be honest when I first wore these my feet felt like they were encased in concrete blocks! but now they’ve worn in a bit they’re very comfy and I no longer get pains in my knees!

Thank you again for all your comments and advice guys !! Today my right calf really was sore and it didn,t help matters that I was generally having an off day running wise. What should have been an 'easy run', of 7.24 secs per kilometre ended up as 7.48 and my breathing which is usually regular and controlled , was short !! Yep ,a run to forget quickly and move on !! Shoe shopping tomorrow with gait analysis and a nice slow ,steady, 10K on sunday .Will post piccies and update the state of play !! Lots of massage going on today which I will continue regularly throughout the weekend .Very frustrating at times when something you love so much can turnaround and bite you !l
