I didn’t see a great deal on this on the forum search button so I thought I’d ask. Do you guys take them? Are they necessary in the UK? Essential for 10km runs?
Or a nice marketing exercise and bit of a waste of money.....

Only on long runs (10km +) or when super hot. Got me through 10k training during last summer’s heatwave! I can manage on just water for 10k, but longer than that I find they really help during the run and with better recovery after. 👍😁
I'm like Sadie-runs and reserve them for long runs over an hour and/or when running in the heat. When I run my trail runs in the summer, they have lots of steep hills and elevation change so I always take a bottle with Tailwind in it. I like Tailwind, it has a good flavour and added sugars.
Hello Raymond, I used zero tablets last summer on the day before a long run and after the run while doing B210k. I think they helped with my hydration.
I don’t carry it with me on my runs as only up to 10k.
I discovered that if I pop a tablet in my water bottle, the pressure builds up and creates a fountain when the spout is released. A bit embarrassing in a post parkrun cafe. So I let it sit in the open bottle for a while now.
I normally don’t take anything in cooler weather and runs up to half marathon. Anything longer and in warmer weather when risking dehydration and heat exhaustion you will need them or your body will simply shut down. Research and experiment!
