Back on the wagon

I graduated from C25k about 6 weeks ago and it’s been a funny few weeks.......

2 weeks after graduation I ran a 5k which I was very happy about. The next day I woke up hurting everywhere and my head felt like it was on a different road planet. It wasn’t the usual muscle soreness this was real pain. I decided that rest was the only cause of action but it was a full week before I felt right again.

I think the cause was just doing too much as well as my running, life had been busy I had been cycling more and in the gym I felt so good due to the running I just did more. After 3 months my body said “enough”. I left it another week but the bad habits I had got out of since Christmas started creeping back in. I was drinking more and making poor eating choices (more chips anyone?).

I did a few half hearted treadmill runs but my heart just wasn’t in it and the weight was creeping back on. Last week i realised I was in danger of losing all the progress I had made. I read a few forum posts for inspiration and decided to run home last Tuesday. The first 10 to 15 minutes were pretty bad but then I felt in some rhythm and started to realise it was going to be ok and I could do this 😀 I got home after my 30 run and felt elated. I think my girlfriend thought I was on drugs as I just couldn’t stop talking.

Running again tonight and I am really looking forward to it- I love being back on the wagon

Well done you. 👏🏼 So hard to come to that realisation and then act on it. 🎉 Keep it steady now, and you’ll really be back on your good track. 👍

Thanks - yes it would have been really easy to do nothing about it and I don’t quite know what made me get up off my bottom and doing something. I wish I did because I’d Boyle it, sell it and make a fortune!

Very well done for nipping those bad habits in the bud Makka. The fact you recognised you needed to get back running, and acted on it, is fabulous. You’ll start feeling/looking better still and the more you notice that, the more you’ll run - and so on! Good for you! 👊👍👏🏃
