That is a dilemma which has been at the back of my mind since I joined C25K and the forum almost a year ago, the difference between jogging and running. They are really the same, however, my own definition is if a person can run a 5K in less than 30 minutes they are running, +30 minutes, jogging, BUT we are all runners if we are not walking, perhaps there are more scientific examples of the difference between the two.
But then there's sprinting. A sprinter might leave us for dust in under 1/2 k but we might be minutes ahead of them over 5k and be over the 30 minutes mark....
Maybe jogging is not getting out-of-breath but running is.?
I remember Katnap being a spectator at a 10K event a few years ago and cheering the runners on, there was this slight incline at about 3K to go where I was watching, some of the gasps and panting from some of the runners was very off-putting, you could hear the echo of the panting from nearby houses coming back, it sort of put me off ever running longer than 5K, I like to feel tired after I run, invigorated but not shattered or out of breath like many of those runners were.
Do you like cake Al?
I love cake Dexy, especially on special occasions such as when I graduated, ran my first full 5k and got a PB for a 5K as well.
I went for a 8k walk this morning and at the end of that bought a very small cake, during the walk I ran for about 5 minutes to make sure that my legs were still in running order.
The official definition of running is about whether in parts of the movement both feet are off the ground at the same time. It doesn’t mention cake. I think that’s what happens when Igo for a run at jogging speed. I like running. I don’t go fast. I like some but not all types of cake. Does that perhaps just make me human?
“I suspect that the sun, moon, earth, stars, and heaven, which are still the gods of many barbarians, were the only gods known to the aboriginal Hellenes. Seeing that they were always moving and running, from their running nature they were called gods or runners (Thus, Theontas)...”
— Socrates in Plato – Cratylus
Do Gods eat Angel cake after running?
😂
Maybe we should take the other side after a run... this looks good! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil...
I don’t like cake... I do like 90%+ chocolate... maybe I could go for the Devils food cake I linked.
I jog because I like ale and wine... I run because I like more ale and wine.
🤪🍺🍻🍷🥂🏃♂️
Whoops I picked up the wrong phone. That was from Dexy5
😂
I also remember the old milk adverts when I was young. If I drank milk I may be good enough to play for Liverpool... if I didn’t I may end up playing for Accrington Stanley... as a proud MUFC fan I took no chances there... still don’t drink milk other than in tea and coffee!
Well I definitely consider myself a runner. No one can get as hot and red as I do while jogging. But I do like a bit of cake and a cappuccino after a run. And because I run I can! 🍰🏃🏽♀️
Cake is for all occasions!
Are we saying runners are more careful about diet than joggers? Who cares! Let them eat cake! 😁
I run to save time! I need to stay active to keep the type 2 diabetes out of my life but the power walking was just taking too much time. However, it’s interesting to see what performance I can ease out of this old frame of mine. Thankfully, I find cake easy to avoid and the occasional “historic building tour” of Bristol doesn’t seem to have much impact on my waistline.
Tee hee hee. Bet the tour was good
The tours are going great thanks. Although we always plan to finish around 6pm but then overrun.
Are you the tour guide? I used to be a tour guide in a show cave once upon a time..
I arrange the starting place then discuss suitable venues during the tour so I guess you could call me the tour guide. By "show cave" do you mean somewhere like the Blue John Cavern?
I noticed that you've done the Marple park run so you probably know Hazel Grove which is where I'm from.
As my weight is stable at about half a stone less than my pre run weight, I don’t want to be any lighter, and I can eat chocolate, including my famous triple chocolate brownies, I have clearly reached equilibrium... so who cares ??? 😊🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫
I think I need a Red Cross box with triple chocolate brownies in Beachcomber. Or I need to accompany you on a run to the special cafe in the woods.
And chocolate, and biscuits.
I'm an endorphin addict pure and simple. Plus I have religious urge to convert everyone to getting both feet off the ground together, together.
🙏
Then there are those Race Walkers, I read that some of these move at 6mins a mile which is far quicker than I run/jog 😯. I've seen them in Marks and Sparks roaring towards the Meal Deal. I think they like the desserts and wine more than the cake!
It’s funny how they get there so quick and then take ages to choose their individual options of starters, sides, mains, desserts and wine!
Its muffins or nothing mate. Blueberry ones with a large latte...anything else is just a no 😂😂😂😂
I have nothing more to add except that I am creased up laughing at the way these conversations so often end up 😂🤣😂🤣
That's OK, I wasn't expecting a serious discussion when I kicked this off - wasn't expecting that blasted milk ad to get in there though
It could be worse... every year my local team gets a mention in FA cup coverage as part of the record win/loss... wouldn’t be so bad if I’d been from Preston I guess!
If there’s no cake at the end of a race I get proper miffed. It ruins it 💪 Bah
It’s happened a lot to me recently 🤯☹️
mmmmmmm, cake........ (wanders off to kitchen....)
Years ago, I went to the winter run in London on a cold February Morning, I was struggling to run 5km at that time and was in awe of all the runners I was going to see that were going to be running 10km. one of them was our own ju-ju- doing her first ever 10km event. I saw everyone off then waited at the finish line for them to come in cheering each and every one, There were many different paced runners that day but they were all runners in my book and when we met up afterwards I had the biggest tub of home made chocolate cake for everyone so I would have to say cake goes with whatever type of runner you are as every single one of them tucked in.
