New Goal for the Tortoise 🐢

Tried the first of the C25K+ podcasts this morning. Verrry interesting. Turned out to be about increasing speed - not a natural fit for a tortoise but we persevered. Walking fine & 150bpm fine, but hitting the hill, the headwind & 155bpm all at the same time? 😟 Not a good moment. Did the time and had a go at the speed but defo no sprint for the last 5!!! Guess the tortoise will be on this podcast for some time. Interestingly, I did less distance in the time than usually, so I guess the increased speed shortened my stride....

Well done 😃👍🙂. I ran the three podcasts randomly. Still do 👍.

Think I’ll try that! Pretty sure speed isn’t ever going to be my thing unless it happens to arrive by accident. Though it was useful to find out what the 3 specific bpm speeds actually felt like.

I also wondered about redoing it to increase speed but I think I’ve decided that building on 30’ is more important for me. If you do a speed run then I think the next few ought to be relaxed. Well done for getting out there!

That sounds more like me than trying for speed! Think perhaps I’ll go on to the others and see what they are, rather than get hung up on being able to do that first one. Speed progression at this stage felt a bit irrelevant for a known tortoise.

I think from what others said to me, is that if you build on the 30’ you will then naturally build on speed. I tried to do a faster run but ended up hating it and wanting to pack it all in. So I think plodding is the way forward for me!

Sounds awfully like me! And I worry about injury. Distance doesn’t seem to worry me so far, so going to go with that. 🐢

Have a look at the answers I got on why does it get harder post. Seems to have resonated with a few people. I will go back to my 30’ but wont worry if I have to walk a minute as I think I want to find new routes which maybor may not work for running.

Seems to take a bit of time to find a new rhythm.

Thanks. Found that thread really helpful and have taken it all in. 😊👍 I like the “go slow to go faster” 85% rule, and agree that we’re all missing the progression (and probably that first thrill) of C25k. Going to curb my natural planning instincts and just work to extending time and distance gently. Will listen to the other C+ podcasts as I go & see what they are without getting hung up on meeting demands, too.

Sounds like you might be a planner like me. I think even if it’s 30’ for 4 weeks, I might write it down on a piece of paper and tick it off because I miss that from C25k...

Well done for giving it a go especially in this weather 👍🏻 I’ve never tried these podcasts! I might give them a go ... well probably not the speed one 🐌 😂

I suspect they’d be really good if one met your particular current goal. That’s what I found out, I think, so going to listen to the others as well. Stamina might be more achievable for me.... well, I’ll see!

Interesting, as you say. It's funny how times and distances play out... my fastest parkrun wasn't the one where I ran the longest... I guess we have so much to learn still. :)

True words, those! 😊 Onwards and ... somewhere! 👍🏃🏼‍♀️

I’ve been repeating my 1st week on the 10K app over & over cause I can’t seem to move beyond it at the moment. I think it’s head winds like you say, maybe a few more weeks when we’re into spring and we’ll be flying. Think of the extra stamina we are unconsciously getting from running in this wind .. well done for getting out there, I’m due a run this morning .. 💨🏃‍♀️

Ah. Like your thinking about the stamina effects of wind. Do hope it’s true! 😄 Which 10k app are you using? I’m collecting opinions towards my future.... 🐢😂

I’m using the Zenworks 10K app. It’s free and is structured a bit like the C25K app. For us C25K grads it starts you off at W9, which is (run 10mins, walk 1) X4. I’ve been repeating W9 though a few times at the moment lol 😂
