83 minutes I did on the treadmill yesterday, which I think is enough to drain the life out of most of us. 83 minutes it took me to hammer out 10k on a treadmill, which is approx 20 minutes longer than it normally takes me. Also, my legs really ached and all traces of any remaining energy felt like it had been sucked out of me.
Normally I go out in all weathers, but just the once I thought I’d give it a go, see if I could do it with my sanity intact. Just glad I downloaded a film off of Netflix to keep me going.
Thanks for the inspiration Irish-John - I don’t know how you did it, you deserve a very large, shiny medal made of the most precious metal. cheekychipmunks , I’ll listen to you next time 😅
Don’t do it kids...play outside, you know it makes sense!

My main problem was not being able to adjust to the steady pace. Apparently my "speed average over distance" is almost rock steady, but at any given moment I am soeefing up or slowing down very slightly. The - to me - unrelenting fixed pace on a Treadmill was the deal-breaker.
It's a pity, because on days with lousy weather it's a good way to run
I thought the steady pace imposed by the treadmill would be a bonus and I’d knock a Pb out, but definitely not - it was the complete opposite. I’m usually pretty steady on a long run too but I suppose you speed up to avoid obstacles, people, cars etc. And I also missed that - that’s where the distractions lie when you’re on your own; they last longer than the initial short increase in speed as you’re thinking about it before and after.
‘Unrelenting’ is a very good description. I’m glad I did it just as a test and to see if I could do it, but I’d really rather not do it again!!!
83 minutes???!!! Nope. Does not compute. 83 seconds - maybe if I was bribed with chocolate. You are a hero! Were your bundies on the outside of your tights?
Here are some more to add to your collection of medals for running that far on the treadmill. I couldn’t. Just couldn’t ..... nope. No way. Kudos to you TC! 👊
Yes, next time come and play with Gareth or one of his mates. Way more fun! ❤️🏃♀️👏
Even so, an extra special well done to you. Amazing stuff! 👏👏👏
Thanks again cheeky! I did play with Elaine a few months back but for some reason I didn’t fancy Gareth!!! Even the cat has only watched him out of the window.
When someone suggested to me I should take out gym membership so I could run through the winter, I replied that I'd rather just spend the membership money on appropriate winter running clothing. Glad I made that choice when I read posts like yours TC!
Yikes, I will heed your warning! Thankfully I have no access to a treadmill, and your post persuades me not to worry about it! Anyway, Spring is nearly here, just battling all winds and weathers until it actually arrives. All part of the fun.
🤣🤣 hats off to you TC!🙌 I've only ever touched a treadmill once at a gym induction - yep never to return 😜 Impressed with you staying on it for EIGHTY THREE minutes!!? Now I'm trying to guess which film you watched... 🤔🦋🦆
It wasn’t very good actually (imho), On Chesil Beach. I’d been looking forward to it since reading the book, but as is usually the case, that was better. It was a bit embarrassing in places to watch certain scenes with others using the treadmills beside me😳😁 Serves me right really as it’s about the consequences of a disastrous first honeymoon night 😳🤭🤓
🤣🤣🤣! Though we can tell it’s not going to be repeated, this is brilliant all the same! You did it!! 83 minutes on a treadmill? 😯 Yeah..... that’s worthy of some sort of medal! Well done you! ❤️
Ah but it was. 83 minutes of running is incredible on those machines seriously. I struggle every week on them. I go outside and can run. I get on a machine and it’s as if my legs give up after 2km. I stop for a drink. I over heat. I am a sweating blotchy red faced woman pretending to run who forces herself to get to the end of a 5k. Seriously. 83 minutes is incredible running, determination and stamina. 😀
Thanks Wimborne, it was sheer bl@@dy mindedness. And the sweat?...Yuck! I felt like I’d run in the middle of summer with a small breeze above my head 🥵
I did the same thing yesterday for 7k. I came home from work in daylight and contemplated getting my run in right away outside but the huge stack of dirty dishes left over from earlier in the week was calling me so I thought I'll just knock it out on the treadmill. Ugh! It was torture but I got it done carrying my speed and my incline all over the place. I'll let the dishes just stew there a little longer next time! It is a nice option when the weather is crap but nothing beats a run outside!
It is odd isn’t it? I remember years ago when I wasn’t a regular runner training for a 5k purely on a treadmill and taking 40 minutes, then when I did it on the day it only took 30. You’d think it would be easier indoors.
Well done to you - thats a huge distance to knock out on one of those things. Its the constant pace that gets me and not being able to change it rapidly. Hats off to you - it may be useful for shorter distances if the weather really is quite bad?
Shudder! I can just about manage a 10 minute gym warm up on a dreadmill. Give me the outdoors any day - even running into Gareth yesterday was more appealing. Well done on your sheer bloody mindedness to get to the end though 👏🏻👏🏻
