Well that was never going to be a super fast time in the heat and my gremlins were on my shoulder the whole way round. Forgot about them when a bloody ostrich escaped and went crazy dashing around us with its wing things flapping around. Terrifying to be honest. But luckily it decided to run for the leaders and stayed away from me. No one was hurt. Now I know why thereโ€™s an ostrich on the medal chasing a runner. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I ended up coming 2nd in my age group drenched in sweat and looking like a raspberry. Great memories. Whoโ€™d have thought it a year ago! Got round in 56 minutes in the end. The chap in 1st did it in 44 mins ๐Ÿ˜ณ. There were more than 2 Iโ€™m told in my age group ๐Ÿ˜‚

A part from your amazing achievement and all the bling, Iโ€™m interested in the ostrich; where the hell are you?

Thank you! Iโ€™m in Bahrain. The run was thorough a nature reserve! I had no idea the ostriches had escaped. They had to tranquilise it in the end poor thing ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Haha ๐Ÿ˜‚ well I suppose count yourself lucky it was only an ostrich that escaped and not anything else although it would have given me a good fright for sure!

Must be very hard to run in that heat! I had an unplanned stop over there on my way back from Nepal 4 years ago, looked interesting.

Well done on your race!

Yes, if a lion had escaped we would all be running in all directions! Can you imagine that?

It would have increased your pace...

Congratulations on a successful and excellent run time for you today, you were only 12 minutes behind the winner and second in your age group, lol, you say that you were looking like a raspberry and all sweaty๐Ÿ˜ช, what a fantastic run you had. ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿƒ

Whoohoo! That is great Brian! I can't imagine an ostrich amongst the runners - that would be crazy indeed! At my trail race last year, a colleague had a moose come up the path towards them. I'm glad I was running a different distance and missed that excitement. Congrats on a great time, too and coming in second in your age group. That is a great achievement!

Thank you Sask! It certainly took my mind off the pain and heat for a short while. Wow those things can run SO fast! ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Thank you fabulous! I still canโ€™t quite believe it really. What am I doing winning medals and stuff when not that long ago I was a smoking, drinking overweight slob! Iโ€™ve got a lot to thank C25K for!

Say what? !!!! An ostrich? ๐Ÿ˜… Thatโ€™s a new running obstacle! Glad you werenโ€™t hurt (or anybody for that matter) and it didnโ€™t distract from your epic run. And what a fabulous time! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿ‘

Your earlier nerves obviously served you well. Well done! And cash with your bling? Grest run all round! ๐Ÿ… ๐Ÿ’ฐ

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ It was certainly a motivator. I was so glad he ran off ahead and didnโ€™t turn back!

Haha ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ sorry but the bit about the ostrich chasing after you made me laugh. Although obviously scary for you ......๐Ÿ˜ฎ.... bet it made you run faster though ....

But cash for a race!!! Really! Well done on your time and placing, that's fab.

RunBrianRun profile image
RunBrianRunGraduate10 in reply to Irishprincess

Yes, it was pretty scary tbh but at least no one was hurt. I was just stunned at how fast it was. Kicking up dust and sand high into the air and flapping its wings like crazy. I wonder whether it might have had chicks nearby and was trying to protect them. And cash for a race! Does that make me a professional runner ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

I'm so sorry. When I posted my reply I really thought the ostrich was someone dressed up. That's what made me laugh.

I didn't think it was real! I know a few people who have a phobia about birds and this would have been terrifying for them, so it's not remotely funny.

You did very well to carry on. And yes you're definitely a pro now ๐Ÿ™‚

Woohoo - well done Brian! It looks hot where ever you are and bet the ostrich got the adrenalin pumping - I'd have been on wobbly legs after that.

Thank you debs! Temperature was 28. It was horrible but fun if that makes sense? Those ostriches can look really scary when they want to!
