Very disappointed in this afternoon’s efforts ☹️ Left work early, home, changed and geared myself up for a leisurely 5K before collecting the Man Cub from after school. From the outset I couldn’t get my breathing sorted and my calfs felt as though they were made of cast iron. Stopped after 2.14k to try and sort the breathing before starting again but only managed another 0.80k 😭. Does anyone else have bad runs like this?

The short answer is yes, twice after I have been stressed out for some reason. It definitely transfers into the running. Whatever the cause, I think that you did the right thing by bailing out before you injured anything. I would just forget about it and go again after a rest day. Twice I have fought to keep going on a bad day and both times ended up with calf injuries requiring rest and in one case treatment. Well done for quitting at the right time👍
YES! On Monday! It was truly awful. I was struggling for breath in the first few minutes and legs were like lead. I came in here moping a bit and everyone was very kind. Then I had an absolutely blinding run today, thank goodness. It will get better, never fear 🙂
Thanks ktsok 😘 I started C25k last May and I honestly think since completing that and moving on to Bridge to 10k I’ve managed to do 3 runs per week approx 95% of the time. Throughout I’ve had maybe 4 bad runs where I’ve had to chuck in the towel. Not bad going but I just feel like I’ve really let myself down ☹️ whenever I don’t manage to do what I set out to. Will get back out there on Saturday morning 💪🏻
I've had waaay more than 4!,
You are doing really well, maybe more of us should post about our "less successful runs"
They all count though 🤩
Thank you Jell6 ☺️ I wasn’t going to post about it to be honest (was just going to wallow in despair 😩) but I knew that if I did post there would be some lovely people coming forth with words of advice and encouragement- like you! 😘
🤗, I went through a bit of a phase of stopping at around 1 or 2 km,(often) Then I did JuJu's plan, and still the gremlins come👿, but I have to admit, I have got better at ignoring them.
I started last February, and had some injury time, so probably am at a similar point to you. Haven't we done incredibly well?🤩
Only four?!
Yeah ktsok. I think out of all the runs I’ve done I’ve not managed to do the distance that I’ve set out to do around four times. Usually do a 3K, 5K and between 5k and 10k (but no pressure to get to 10k each week). I’ve only done two 10k since I started Bridge in October 2018.
Well, that sounds pretty darn impressive from where I’m standing, Ally. I don’t know about you, but my life rarely goes quite as planned and I guess why should running be any different?! Don’t you think as we run more often and for longer, we are bound to experience both the ups and downs more often? I think I’m getting better at handling the fact some runs don’t go the way we want; but I still have a long way to go with that particular lesson!
Thank you ktsok. You’ve hit the nail on the head so to speak and you are right in that the longer we run there is bound to be an increase in ups and downs which is what I really need to get my head round. I suppose it’s about being a little more accepting (and letting go) of the bad ones and not to feel utterly defeated. Anyway...we are runners (never thought I’d ever say that!) and run we will 💪🏻☺️
Definitely! Have had some runs that feel like I’m wading through treacle whilst going up the side of a mountain! Then the next time I go for a run say two days later it’s the complete opposite! Just put it down to “one of those runs”. You’ll be fine on the next one I bet 😊😃
Yes we all do. I had a bad run on Wednesday, I planned to do 10k but only got to 8k as mind was all over the place, plus I had runners’ tummy. I was very disappointed. I have a 10k race this Sunday, so fingers crossed it goes well.
Oh AllyS. Some runs are just like that. God I had weeks of them in Feb. But just keep that lovely head up and smile. You are running. That is amazing and brilliant
I've had some shockers and they are usually when I'm running alone. Even when I get the lead legs if I'm running with someone else I somehow battle on. Just chuck it in that bucket and move on. Do everything you can to make the next one be a good one. Plan an easier route, hydrate, stretch , go with a buddy, etc. We can all forget one shitty run if the next ones are good or just ok. Well dobe for getting out there 😁
I think we all have bad days when it just doesn’t go right - breathing all wrong, legs hurt, head in the wrong place. At least you knew when to stop. Just chalk it up to experience and the next one will undoubtedly feel better 😃
hi. yep, I feel for you. I seem to be having runs like this all the time at the mo!! just try and forget about it
