I finally graduated (properly!) from C25K :D

Ok I should have posted this a few days ago (Saturday) but I've been rather preoccupied with stuff.

Whilst out on a 6.5k run I finally managed to do 5k in 30 minutes according to Strava. Didn't expect that, wasn't aiming for that, but apparently it happened. It was exactly 30 minutes too... 30:00. See Oldfloss , you're not the only one who likes nice round numbers. Ok - I would have been slightly happier with 29:?? but whatever - I did 5k in 30 minutes, now, since graduating in early November 2017, I actually feel like a proper graduate :)

Pity I'm struggling with right ankle pain!!! Not been a great year for me injury-wise so far...!

Great achievement, Neil! Though I have to correct you - you graduated the first time you ran for 30 mins continuously! Regardless of distance! That’s the aim of C25K. Anyways, well done buddy - so good to see progress! It has taken me 18 months to get to a sub-30 min 5k, and am happy with that.

Hope the ankle calms down soon. Need to see your physio again maybe? Don’t despair. We all get niggles from time to time.

You are right of course, I just have OCD issues with the name!! Why is it not “Couch to 30 minutes”? For that reason though, I decided I should post this in C25K

Wow, that's amazing! Well done. Imagine how fast you'll be when your ankle heals 😀

Thank you! I’ll probably be really slow knowing my luck!!!

Whoop whoop that's something to celebrate 🎈🍾🏃 Well done to you.

Thanks! Never thought I’d manage that, but ended up with Strava telling me I had, and of course it was completely by accident!!

Thank you! It’s a bit on and off at the moment, a lunch time walk might help... I hope :)

Speedy! Did you have go fast stripes or something?

Well done, hope those niggly aches and pains go away.

in reply toGoforitmama

Thank you Goforitmama Well the huge downhill from 2-3k ish probably helped :) Although there was some elevation too. Pretty pleased though, actually really surprised, I got the shock of my life when I saw the Strava achievement!!

You properly graduated once you started running for more than 30 minutes or more than 5k but that said, its always good to achieve targets!

Happy running 🏃! 😁

I think the Originator must have known that 5k "30 minutes" would somehow emphasis speed rather than distance and us "Could never run" lot would either start off too fast or be "self humiliated" at how "short a distance" we can run (as in your misgivings about not making 5k before :) )

When I started anyway, I could "see and aspire to" the various distance markers, otherwise I would have been constantly getting hung up on "how slow I do run :( " :)

5k also became a great motivation to continue because of 5k fun runs I could enter :)

If it had been "you may someday run 30 minutes" - nah, that's boring.

I'm not putting it very well, but basically I think the Originator came up with the perfect "Marketing" slogan to lure us - like me maybe a lot of "Most Unlikliest Of Runners" - off the Couch :)

Anyway - Congratulations on achieving your standard, well done :)

Thanks John - wise words, I feel :) I hate my tendency towards OCD sometimes lol!

We all do it together some extent or other, believe me. Some don't cope with it and hide it, some acknowledge it and cope well with it as a result :)

The "Perfection Gene" is in us all - I keep mine in place by asking myself at times how I would percieved someone else feeling "bad" because they thought they'd come up short somehow. :)

It is so much harder to be as compassionate to ourselves than to others - so, I always try to give myself a break when the OCD tendency kicks in :)

5k in 30 minutes is as big a milestone as first 5k, 10k, ten miles, HM and FM all the same - so well done :)

Very well done Neil! I bet it was an incredible feeling! I’m not sure I’ll ever experience it! 😅😅

Btw, why does your user name now come up as “Hidden”?

Well done - achieving that is a real milestone (or 5kstone!) 😀
