I had a good week last week, a 7Km, and two 5Ks. Nice and slow, not trying for Parkrun PBs right now.
After church yesterday - I took the service - I was talking to the last ladies who were tidying up. One asked me about running, and I was singing the praises of C25K to her. Another said that she used to run 5 and 10Ks, and enjoyed Cross Country at school, but stopped enjoying it, and now goes to the gym for weight training. Very sad.
And then I made the mistake of telling them that my method of enjoying a Parkrun was to find a nice set of glutes in some brightly coloured tights and follow them... I think it shattered my rep. But the girl who does weight training thanked me, she said it might help her to get back to running if the clergy think appreciating the young men was okay... Doh! π³
Runs away....

I never disapprove of one person appreciating another, for whatever reason. From a strictly theological point of view, the object of ones appreciation being one of God's creations.
It's the next step that is critical, just like running.
Oh so true, what a dull world it would be! π And I completely defer to you in matters theological. The best I could contribute would be "That would be an ecumenical matter". According to Father Ted, it covers a lot of bases, and may become my stock response when I don't know what I'm talking about π (sorry not very helpful, I'm in a mischievous mood today - but thanks for sharing your story, it really made me smile π)
There is a lady at my local Parkrun and she is a steady 30 seconds to a minute faster than me. This lady is quite cool looking and about 15 years my senior. Following the last Parkrun on Saturday I told a girl that Iβm friendly with that I was going to take that lady out next week. I got a weird look in return. I realised as soon as I said it and laughed.ππ
What meant to say was next week and the week after I am going to try and pass that lovely lady out before the finish line as I will be trying to match her speed soon. She is my new Parkrun Nemesis.
Having a target is a great way of improving your time. Itβs so satisfying when youβve got to find a new target. πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Yes Iβve been doing that for a few weeks now. This Lady is running a sub 28 minute 5K. So I think it will take me another few weeks to pass her out.
Yes knowing people who are slightly faster and trying to pass them at Parkrun is a great way to secure a new PB. And itβs great to have someone to pace against also.
Love it!! ππ Thereβs a chap at my parkrun with two new knees who power-walks and is invariably ahead of me... not quite the same view but an incentive nonetheless π
At our parkrun last week there was a young man in a wheelchair with 1 aand a half legs (young man, not wheelchair) and he did not come in last, beating about 5 or 6 others. Iβd not seen him before and I tend to go each week, but I was right impressed I can tell you. Now I just need to make sure I always give thanks I still have 2 (legs not young men)
Adds a new meaning to βRun so as to get the prizeβ. I always thought of the prize being at the destination, but now realise it is just in front of us... and mercifully out of reach.
