Enforced rest 🙁

I’ve been frustrated this week: after the wind died down on Saturday I went for a run, felt stiff as a board but expected it would ease off as usual... but it didn’t. Developed a really tight calf which forced me to stop and walk home after a mile: something I have never had to do before. I have rested since, been stretching plenty and while I have felt fine to run again since yesterday, work pressures mean I probably won’t until tomorrow. However, shiny new running shoes await as tomorrow is my birthday so hoping to christen them in the morning 😊 Interesting that my iffy knee has completely settled though! I really want/need to start increasing my distance soon, so hopefully getting these nibbles sorted and a good pair of shoes will help. Happy running, everyone 👍

Hi Molly(which happens to be the name of our Old English!). I have had a week off too with calf pain. I ended up seeing a sports physio who massaged out a couple of “knots” fitted taped over the worst pull and gave me some remedial exercises to do. I go back tomorrow for a follow up and a plan to restart running in stages. In the end it will cost me £42 for the first 1 hour appointment and £28 for the follow up half hour, but for me it is worth it for the peace of mind; I know what the problem is and have a plan to fix it. I just mention it in case your problem persists. Some of this stuff just goes away with rest I know. Not cheap but not as expensive as I expected. 😊

Thank you Beachcomber! Molly isn’t my actual name but a play on my surname... cockles & mussels...! Your pooch looks gorgeous so happy to share a name of sorts! I’m glad you’ve had help with your calf. I’m lucky in that I am a physio myself, and although this isn’t my specialism (by a long stretch: mine is respiratory and end of life), I have a good many friends and colleagues who can help and advise and I have a good stock of tape! All is good, in fact I really want to run today but I have a lot of essays to mark so will save it until tomorrow, so I’ve just done done lovely yoga stretching. Rest has been good, I think 👍
