So after the excesses of the last few days (Iβm sure those chocolates had more in the box than that - oh, it was me π), along with my euphoric 10k on Boxing Day, I headed out to parkrun with my willowy 25 year old daughter. Sheβd done Tough Mudder in the summer, but sheβs only a very occasional runner.
Her time? 31.09! Stop it! Made my time seem even more pedestrian than usual. Still (excuse time), it was windy, I had sore shins from a brisk 5k hilly walk in heavy boots, Iβd leant her my headphones. Ok, ok, my body was making me pay! But it was brilliant having her come along and she loved running with our dog. πSheβs going to try Hampstead Heath when sheβs back in London.
My Garmin only registered 4.9k though - is that common? I didnβt have MMR today but thatβs always accurate. Anyone else noticed a discrepancy?
Right, next stop The Double on New Years Day. Time to restart hydrating and being mindful on New Years Eve! Have a great time everyone! ππ

I noticed the other day MMR said Iβd reached 10k before Garmin did too. Maybe Iβll use the MMR time - it was 40 seconds quicker! Iβll take anything! π
You did it! That's what counts! How lovely to run with, OK at the same event, your daughter! All the best for your New Year's Day double! πββοΈπββοΈππ π»
Thanks 61, absolutely canβt wait! Iβll be flopped on the couch when I get back though, and I donβt care who knows! π π π Happy New Year! π
My Garmin said 4.96k on today's parkrun - despite buzzing 1,2 and 3k all before the respective markers leading me to expect more than 5k on the Garmin! I've given up trying to understand The Parkruns are all measured out aren't they? I'm sure they must be accurate
Iβll never understand tech! And itβs not like the measurements are miles out and Iβm an elite runner! Still, tons of fun though and I must say I felt like I belonged when I set my Garmin going at the start! ππ
Another great parkrun cheekychipmunks, well done to you and your daughter π
I was working this morning so no parkrun but I got out for a quick 5K this afternoon which was a relief as I felt I was fighting a viral infection this morning , but it seemed to get better as the day went on so at least I've got two runs in this week. π
Thanks CH, and Iβm glad your run made you feel better. ππ
I could easily have skipped this morning judging by how my legs felt. Not painful, just fatigued. But Iβm so glad I did! Seeing my daughter running was lovely too. She had a great run and was very proud (and surprised) at her time. πββοΈ
Well done Cheeky! Strava registered mine as 5.2k! Iβd love to run with my very sporty 23 year old son, but his day only has one 9 oβclock and it isnβt the morning one π
Thanks Jonathan, she enjoyed it and will be a regular when she moves back to Bristol in a couple of months. π
Interesting about the differing distances - I donβt mind as long as itβs not way out. I used the Garmin and MMR for my 10k last week, and used the Garminβs stats just to be sure Iβd run the distance. Only a tiny bit different, but it would have bothered me if MMR has shortchanged me!
Well done Cheeky! My Garmin often measures a bit under, and Strava often takes even more off. Just figure itβs an accurately measured 5k, so Parkrun know best. πβ€οΈ
Yes I agree MD, and the discrepancy is very small in any case. Interesting to see what it measures on the first New Years Day parkrun. Iβm getting quite nervous about the double now itβs getting closer! π
Ah, yes, speedy offspring. My daughter and granddaughter had to keep running back to me when we ran together, so that they didn't disappear and lose me x
I was on her heels for the first 0.5km, then she starting edging away. I saw her running up through the funnel while I still had the last km lap to go. At least she was there to cheer me in! πββοΈπββοΈ
