OMG... That was a blast πŸ˜…

It's been one of those weeks ... I stubbed my toe really badly Wednesday night culminating in me lying on the floor while everyone is in bed, first cursing a blue streak, then curled up in the fetal position weeping like a little baby; Thursday night the same foot and ankle decided to cramp up for no reason where I didn't know if I should cry or laugh, then today I was supposed to run my long run before a long stint of on-call will limit running for the next week but hubby booked my car to go in to the shop to get a recall fixed on it which was going to delay my run, the wind was picking up and my trail running partner was coming to town for a doctor's appointment so we were going to try and have a lunch time visit. I decided to delay my long run until next week after all my call and, if I felt up for it, would go out for a "whatever" run this afternoon.

After a wonderful short lunch with my running partner and all caffeinated and sugared up, I decided to head out. We're in a warm up for the next week so the snow is melting, leaving treacherous patches of water with sneaky ice under it on the sidewalks. I decided after a little warm up run around the park, I would head over to the coulee to see what it would be like. We've had a lot of wind and some warmer weather so areas looked blown off and runable.....well, it was....initially. Then I got off the beaten path of the dog walkers, and tried to follow the mountain bike course but was quickly mid-calf deep in snow. I back tracked a bit and followed a trail that some sort of ATV had made. Again, I decided to follow the mountain bike course up into a hilly ridge, following some deer tracks and was quickly in deep snow again, but decided to keep going. I was high stepping, embracing my inner deer, going by the spot they had obviously bedded down. There were other neat tracks - little bird foot prints, and some other little critter, I couldn't figure out. I know I have scared up a fox in the fall running here, but the tracks seemed a little small for that. Regardless, it was interesting looking at the tracks, finding the bedding down areas and the droppings. As I made my way back to the more travelled portion of the trail, I got into some even deeper snow, past my knee. Now I am whooping like a little kid, my feet are wet, I am trudging through, just having a jolly good time. I'm sure if I met someone else out there, they would think I was a little looney. But hey, you gotta make the best of what you are given and make it fun. I got to the area where the snow was blown off, and found the mud was quite slick and slippery along the top ridges. Now I am giggling and whooping even more, leaping from snow mound to snow mound, just trying to stay upright. I make my way back to where I started where the snow is better and decided to carry on a little more and explore another area of the coulee, finding another portion of the trail that I seem to always miss the last couple times I was out. All in all, I ran just over six km, embraced my inner child, and had a hoot playing in the snow.

I hope everyone has a great weekend of running and can also take some time to embrace their inner child and have a little bit of childish fun 😊

I remember when you posted about that! You feel my pain and trying to be quiet while in pain. My hubby apparently heard the commotion though

Thanks kwell. How is your winter, snowy run going? Have you tried out your yaktrax yet?

Unfortunately, we haven't had any more snow since they arrived! It also warmed up a bit - high 30's, low 40's F - so the roads and sidewalks are clear. I am liking the cold weather runs and all the crazy looks I get from people. Can't wait to try the Yaktrax out though!

I love your posts...! We hardly ever get snow where I live, except a light dusting really. I can't imagine running through piles of it like you do.

It works the muscles in a different way so even a shorter run is a great workout. If I didn’t run in the cold or snow, I wouldn’t run for half the year. That would make for a grumpy mummy 🀣

Commiserations about the stubbed toe! Sounds like you had a great time out there - part sleuth on the trail of an unknown beast examining the droppings part wild snow child! I was whooping with you! 😁

You would think all the trail running would help me know where my feet are and extend to my everyday life, but nope. I bang my feet way too often. I grazed the same spot again last night on the same foot stool. Kiddo was right there so I watch my mouth but, man oh man, how can little toes hurt so much?!?

I love searching for animal prints and am always watching for wildlife on all my runs, be it birds or deer, foxes or snakes. Come spring time, I have to start the tick search, too πŸ˜–. Fortunately, the ticks and snakes or not an issue for now.

That sounds like so much fun, Sask! Made me want to get out and run (but I ran yesterday and not yet up to consecutive days). Bravo to you! Hope the stubbed toe is better. So painful 😱 Swearing does help. 😁 xxx

It’s amazing what a good f-bomb can do for pain control 😁. The toe had felt better but my foot was aching a bit after my run and then I grazed the same spot in the same stool last night so it is a bit achy today. It’ll be fine when I can finally get out again, I’m sure.

Good idea on respecting the rest days. Sometimes it’s just so hard when the running itch strikes.

What a gorgeous sounding run, so full of joy! Looks like a Christmas card too. You'll definitely remember this one as you drift off to sleep ......😴

It could’ve gone one of 2 ways...giggling and laughing and embracing the challenge or grumpy and frustrated and cursing every minute of it. It was windy when I set out but the coulee was nice and protected until I got up on the ridge. Fortunately, it ended up being just what I needed and so much fun! It will definitely go in the memory bank as one of the ones to pull out when the runs get tough.

If only I could bound through the snow as fast as them ... but Ian a klutz and would end up on my bottom or face planted πŸ™„πŸ˜. I’ve taken some time off during the holidays so I can’t wait to see what adventure awaits me.

Ouch for your toe! Your Wed sounds like my Wed last week where nothing went right and I missed my run too. The animal tracks and bedding down areas sound fascinating to come across. Sounds like you purged all the noise in your run to clear your mind. My Thurs run was a relief too. And today we did a Santa run downtown which was lots of fun. Hope your toe is feeling better now too.

I was on my feet all day at work today and it is just a little stiff; should be good by the time I get to run again. I love the pics you posted about your run - having such a fun run group would sure make running those distances "easier".....well maybe not easier, but you have some great distraction running with that group.
