5k and Beyond.... How is it going this week? December 17th to the 23rd

Hi there everyone and welcome to a new week of running :)

At this time of year things get very busy, so we just have to try a bit harder and perhaps take ourselves out of our comfort zones to find the time to run.

Fear not, here is a place to take five, and enjoy a chat about our running adventures, trials, tribulations, successes, achievements etc.

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up, but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week.

If you're a lurker it is a great place to say a little hi, without the pressure of a full post.

So pull up a chair, slip off the running shoes, and settle down for a nice bit of HU goss sharing :)

Happy running and happy panthering,

Oldfloss, Realfoodieclub, Ju-ju , Millsie-J and Roseabi

xx

Hi Ju-ju- and HU runners! I'm keeping up with the Quest commitments. I've booked a 'Run at your own pace' 25 mile for January, and a 10k event in April at our Park Run venue for the Stroke Association! Should help keep me on track this winter :)

Sounds good!!

I'm doing the 15k race for the same cause - love the purple t-shirt. i have to do mine on my own and send in the evidence, as can't get to any of the venues x

Hi all. Yep it's difficult this time of year. ... Lots going on. I'm on the last week of Ju-Ju's plan. It's taken me longer than the 8 weeks, and not always ran 3 X week... But have done a few extra 4 or 5k,but not over the full distance amount per week. I did park run this Saturday (got a new PB 32:28 🎅) and the last so had a week between runs! I also really need to push myself to do stretching and some core work and those planks, so that's gonna be one or my resolutions. 😁

I think I must have proper runner's brain now.......Off to Tenby for a couple of days after Christmas and my first thought was "which running gear should I take?" :)

Yay 🏃🏻‍♀️

Day 17 of Marcothon run every day in December done. I would have run faster and further but am constantly foiled by the weather - black ice and frost the last two days (which I didn't know about till well into the run - both times!), howling gale and sub zero temperatures on Saturday and so on. But all good. No aches and pains, and though I'm consistently running slower than normal, I'm also running stronger and losing weight, gaining muscle. I went through the fatigue barrier last week and am feeling energised.

Have also now run 99% along Hadrian's Wall (in virtual terms).

Hi juju, I am hoping to get 2 runs in this week having only made one last week. Saturday will be parkrun after wimping out of the torrential rainstorms parkrun last week. I’ve reduced time on internet but admit I take a peep every now and then. Hello everybody.

Not been around here for a bit, but I have still been running, albeit mostly just on the treadmill and not for any great distances. Still fondling the lycra though and I am running every time I am in the gym while I am not running outdoors. Having a bad headcold and then the weather getting bad and my running spirits being down generally has all collided to mean I haven't been out much :s. Need to find my way back.

I’m really glad to hear you are still running albeit on the treadmill. I do really hope you find your way back.... ease back in gradually perhaps?

I just keep on running and exercising. Like last winter and the one before l still apply the same logic when running in what some call bad weather. “Ditch the logic and run” is my reasoning and it helps no end - there is no good weather or bad weather, the weather just is and we just happen to be there. When l look outside and know that l will run at 5.30 this evening l just need to apply my “ditch” mantra and tighten up my cap so it doesn’t get blown away. Take that, wind! Lol

Hi All,

It's been a couple of months since I last posted and then said I was intending to consolide with 5K's three times a week until the end of the year and then start ju-ju's next 10K plan in January.

So far it has gone to plan, the new shoes have been brilliant and in fact over the last few weeks I have been increasing the distance of one run a week. Last night I completed 8K, which is the furthest I have run since the London 10K back in May.

I am going to carry on increasing the distance if everything feels alright and hopefully I will reach 10K again in the new year. For a challenge and to keep me motivated I am thinking of signing up to Race at Your Own Pace for 50 miles in January.

Hi ju-ju...I managed to do the 10k last week, now I have to push on to 11k next week as training for a half marathon in February. The running has been great, despite the weather. Funny I don't like walking in wet weather, but somehow running in it isn't so bad. Something strange going on with me 👀😳.

By the way, I would love to have the 10k graduate stamp (not sure what to call it). How do I go about it, please? Happy running and merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄 🎅🏻

What's happened to me! This morning I found myself counting my off/on running days to see if I was due to run on Christmas day (Have 3 kids). and was excited as conveniently running Christmas Eve and Boxing day :D

I only did couch to 5K as I 'HATED' running... I used to laugh at the idea of a 'fun run'....... and now I don't want to stop.

Was working away from home this week and staying in a hotel in a small village (convenient for where I was working)

I had enquired about local runnng routes, but they did not have any real idea! But they did confirm the village had street lights, as I asked that because I was intending to run early morning.

I went out the first morning, and ran through the village to find myself on a cycle track along a busy but street lit dual carriageway, with a 40mph limit, but as I was not totally happy I knew exactly where I was going, I turned round after about 1.5k and got back to my hotel

Second day (having driven along the dual carriageway to work) I tried a different route to the dual carriageway and found myself running along a narrow pavement with no streetlights. Then a big lorry splashed me from head to toe going through a puddle on the side of the road.

At last I found the cycle track again and managed to do a 5.1 k run by when I got back to the hotel.

I did suss out in daylight that there was a footpath along the riverbank, but no lights and I don’t have a torch. So I didn’t fancy going along there in the dark!

But it all raised a question in my mind, how do you suss out a new district when you travel around a bit? I would have liked to know a bit more about where I was going before setting out!

ju-ju-Graduate10 in reply to BarbieW

I’ve googled and there are often routes that people have shared. But like you, I usually just explore but that can go wrong in any number of ways!!

I have slowly been increasing my distance. I didn’t sign up for The Plan ( I call it TP) but lurking over recent weeks and reading advice I have slowly increased just a little week by week over the last 5 weeks. Ran my first 8km this evening. I was so excited after finishing. Was jumping up and down. Thanks Ju Ju. Magic working well.
