Ran (on dreadmill) for longer than Iโve ever done however it was totally snails pace. In fact the snails were faster ๐ณ ๐ ๐. I did feel like I could have kept going but I kept the slow and steady mantra going in my head. Think Iโll try and increase my pace slightly for next longer run. Happy running to one and all! ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ ๐โโ๏ธ
7K Completed : Ran (on dreadmill) for longer... - Bridge to 10K
7K Completed
By gum! 10 out of 10 ๐ for stickability, that would have driven me completely round the bend ๐, if dreadmills had bends ๐.
You must have some cracking music ๐ต to keep you going!
It was nothing short of torturous Stanley however I did have my tunes going constantly and the console on the dreadmill had a TV attached for additional distraction! ๐ฌ
And here I was complaining about boredom running round Ascot racecourse! That has upslopes and downslopes, wind (combined with the upslope one time it was as much as I could do to put one foot in front of the other!), things to look at, dogs to dodge and say hello to (their owners too)... and I run quicker than you so it was over sooner. 11 out of 10 for stickability.
Well Done AllyS, I hope you didnโt have to suffer Homes under the hammer like I did last time at the gym!
Thanks Dexy. Making progress albeit slowly ๐ฌ Donโt mind a bit of Homes under the hammer however last couple of runs Iโve done on dreadmill itโs been programmes involving cooking which means Iโm absolutely starving by the end of my runs ๐
Wow! Great job! I find the treadmill challenging mentally but enjoyed a hilly workout I did on it last week. Iโm finding variation is the key for me to survive a dreadmill run ๐ต but am hoping to try a few hilly and speed workouts just to change up my runs a bit this winter.
Thanks SaskAlliecat. Dreadmill is most def mentally challenging and a bit stifling at times but I do it because it suits me better at the moment. Will hopefully get back outdoors whenever I can but itโs not easy juggling work and childcare around runs. Thatโs great that a bit of variety is doing it for you ๐๐ป๐
Kudos to you!! ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐ฆ
Well done on your 7k AllyS - I've found alternating length of run and pace really helpful
First things first; being compared to a snail ๐ on a long run is a massive compliment! Looking back, I did my first 8k at a pace of 8:54 outdoors, and my second one, three runs later, at 7:46. Others on this site often say that the long slow runs build strength, so I reckon that, in addition to being a really good run and an example of monumental determination, you have nicely set up your next long run which can be a bit quicker, if that is what you want to do. I am off to do an outdoor 7k shortly. It is cold and muddy and there is a threat of rain.....character forming !!! No idea what pace I will achieve but definitely thinking๐๐ .
Thanks Beachcomber66. Whilst Iโm pleased that I am able to run for 7K the thought of not being eventually able to run it faster and quicker fills me with dread โน๏ธ. If I ever reach 10K Iโll be lucky to have completed it with 90 mins which makes me want to cry ๐ญ. Iโll just need to chip away at it. Hope youโre 7K went well ๐๐ป
My 7k was a shocker. First 1k was too fast and I paid the price in the last 3k. I never learn. ๐s rule!! Time was ok (for me). It took about 55 minutes. So a 10k ,run a bit slower, probably works out at, say 1 hour 20 mins. You are only talking about a minute per k longer with your 90. I am sure we will both speed up in time. I do believe in leg strengthening exercises. I use the NHS knee strengthening for runners. They have helped me a lot. I think that you just need to be a bit kinder to yourself. Ok all of my running is done outdoors so there is endless interest even if some of it involves fighting off over friendly dogs, but I think that loads of runners will be in exactly the same place as us...the trick is not to care !!๐๐๐
Well done AllyS. You did it and thatโs the main thing. The long run is all about keeping going and building stamina. I have managed to avoid the dreadmill so far - canโt imagine anything worse than having my pace dictated. I did my 8k this morning with kms ranging from 6.47 to 8.10!
Thank you Sandie! Hope you enjoyed your 8K. Your pace range was great and thatโs what I aspire to. Iโm trying to bear in mind that the longer runs are about endurance and strengthening as opposed to speed but I just feel my times arenโt really reducing much since I graduated from C25K back in September. Need to try and be more patient ๐ฌ
I felt just the same. I was chasing a sub 30 5k, but was just not getting any faster, so switched to the 10k plan rather than getting frustrated. Everybody says that speed comes naturally with extra distance and, as long as you enjoy it, what does it matter. Leg strengthening as well - hit those squats and lunges ๐ซ๐ซ๐ซ
