Hi everyone - welcome to a new week!

Sometimes we don't feel like writing a whole post, sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day!!

Recent C25K graduate still building up to 5K? Consolidating 5K, or perhaps working towards 10K? Seasoned 10K pro? Wherever you are with your running, this is the place to chat about it!!!

Or even if you just want to post a quick hello - it’s lovely to hear from you all 😊

I ran in the Beachy Head Marathon this weekend and it was freeeezing at the start!! That is probably the only downside of racing events, for me anyway 😊 I was wearing two hats and shaking like a leaf!!

Who else is running in extra layers at the moment?

Have a great week running, everyone!

A ten minute pfaff around prior to heading out for a run has become the norm for me recently. What to wear....what not to wear.... Then I get outside and convince myself for a few minutes that I should have put on more clothes. Ten minutes into the run I’m peeling stuff off and leaving it somewhere to pick it up on the way back. This time of year I love cuffins (extra long sleeves with thumb holes and built in mitts), ya can just peel em back when you are warmed up.

Well done on your marathon!

in reply to Goforitmama

i didn't know those holes had a name Goforit. Cuffins! I'm having the same clothing dilemma myself.

I do love something to pfaff over! Good for you, running in the rain. I don’t mind a bit of drizzle or light rain - it’s almost cathartic, but I don’t like the heavier rain showers.

I need cuffins! 😁

Cuffins! Love it!!!

Oh well done on your marathon Roseabi. Interesting look - the 2 hat one. I must try it. I bought a peaked cap this weekend for running in the rain - to keep the drops off my specs. I got free running/cycling gloves as race bling. I just need to sort out the fleece or not fleece dilemma. So after a hilly 8.7km race yesterday, I am taking two days of rest. Then i'm hoping for a recovery 5km on Wednesday, 4km of speed intervals on Friday and a longish hilly run on Sunday.

Hi Paulanoo, I am so glad that you love your runs, I like the idea of "A recovery run" as I am new to running a 5K, I intend to run my 5th 5K on Wednesday and will have to 'recover' after I finish it, as the winter is coming on I will keep to that distance for the moment, my times are not too bad, averaging around 35 minutes, the fastest 5K I ran was 33.40. Good running to you.

in reply to AlMorr

Great alm. I’m a fan of taking more than one rest day if needed. Being injured is a pain. Good times there speedy. Enjoy number 5.

Wow - go Paula!!! I love my peaked cap so much I sometimes just have to wear two hats 😊 I was shedding layers throughout the marathon!

I love that pic!!! I did a runulette in woolly hat and gloves. I’ve just received a gilet from eBay but it’s a bit tight. I’m going to have to cut down on my snacks πŸ˜”

I’ve got a hooded gilet that’s good as can start with hood up. Juju, I think I’ll do some more consolidation before I start your plan, don’t want to push my luck with this calf sprain I’m getting over πŸ˜¬πŸ‘‹

You'll get there, Cat xx

Hello Roseabi, it must have been chilly on the cliffs at the weekend. I too found it a bit chilly at parkrun so I’ve just returned from a shopping trip at the outlet shops . I’ve bought some gloves with reflective pattern and fingertips that work on the smartphone. 2 warmer tops with what I now know are called cuffins and another pair of long leggings. I can’t wait for πŸŽ…πŸ» to bring them - I need them now.

Goforitmama profile image
GoforitmamaGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

I like cuffins, they stop me from looking at my watch too often and let me just run.

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to Goforitmama

Yes my long sleeve top had the same effect even though it didn’t have thumb holes. It’s quite relaxing isn’t it?

Definitely.

First run in the cold for me yesterday, as a Newby this is my first winter so no decent gear yet (hope Santa is listening) so yesterday was a long sleeve football shirt, wolly hat and gloves, must have looked a right sight!

I'm sure you looked like a runner in a shirt and gloves xx

It wouldn't hurt to bung Santa an email though... 😊

Congratulations on your marathon. I'm planning on introducing some hills into my running. As I've just been doing consolidation flat runs, and I think I'm ready. Also a park run on Saturday. I went for a run on Sunday morning along the undercliff at rottingdean all wrapped up and ended up way too hot. It can be a lot warmer down there , if the wind is blowing over the top of the cliffs!

roseabi profile image
roseabi in reply to Snuffy_T

Thank you! The sun reflects off the cliffs and the concrete, which makes it even hotter! On a less windy day I recommend running along the top of the cliffs instead. Although the road is busy, there's an undulating trail between Brighton Marina and Rottingdean (maybe further, but I haven't been past R'dean yet) that takes you away from the cars a bit - a nice practice hilly trail run 😊

I haven't tackled a hill yet...! I've got them on my wish list.

Wow Beachy Head Marathon - I need to sit down to even think about that! Beachy Head has been our destination for bracing walks and hikes for years - that’s what I call hilly! Would I contemplate running it? Well considering my progress from the couch in 4 months - maybe one day! Well done roseabi!

roseabi profile image
roseabi in reply to Neelie13

Why not! I did it as my first marathon a couple of years ago - it's a very satisfying achievement 😊

Hi roseabi , it’s def chilly out there but I had to peel my extra layer off this morning...well done on your marathon, must feel amazing when you sit & think about what you’ve just done?? I wasn’t really feeling it this morning but went out any way...was a bit of a β€˜meh’ run

Sometimes it's just good to get it ticked off the list, right? Well done!

It is a fabulous marathon 😊

Hello roseabi! I just thought I’d pop my head round the virtual door as I think I’m in the right place now...

Beachy Head! I love Beachy Head and the whole of the South Downs, it’s so starkly beautiful! Can’t ever imagine doing a marathon around there though - so windy and hilly! Hope it went well.

Yes, layers, loads of them!! Now having difficulty getting to my watch because my base layer cuffins (ah, that’s what they’re called! Thanks Goforitmama !) are too tight! I do really like them but getting to devices because of cuffins and gloves is getting really tricky. Parkrun got a real muddle last week (see previous post) and I just gave up trying to get my devices to do what I wanted them to do! However, hats and buffs - brilliant for keeping earphones under control, just tuck it all in!! I won’t be continuously whacked by the little on-off sticky out control bit until the weather warms up πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

GoforitmamaGraduate10 in reply to TailChaser

Hey TailChaser, I was on C25K last week and one woman was going out with gloves, taking them off when she got too warm and stuffing them down her sports bra. She said that they looked lumpy, so I think maybe wrestling with tight cuffins is a better look than a lumpy chest.

My (very) old Garmin is too antiquated and does not measure heart rate, so it can go over the top of my sleeves.

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate10 in reply to Goforitmama

That’s an interesting place to put them GFIM! Do you think she’s got the wrong size bra on if she’s got room for gloves? I know I don’t πŸ˜‚

Actually I wear gloves as well as cuffins, I’ve got arthritis in my hands (just to add to the fiddling & faffing & lack of dexterity!) so I have to keep them warm. Good idea for the sleeve wearing: maybe I’ll just forgo the HRM eventually and do as you do. Distance and pace is more important I reckon.
