Do people run both days? I did my snaily Parkrun yesterday and feel a bit stiff but fine - thinking about a short run with the dog this morning ....,sounds ridiculous even asking really...but want to give the bridge to 10k a go and am struggling to run in the week....any views??
Running at the weekends : Do people run both... - Bridge to 10K
Running at the weekends
There is a link in the guide to post C25K running healthunlocked.com/couchto5... which suggests that you should run regularly for six months, at least, before considering consecutive days running. My advice is that it is safer to wait longer rather than rush into consecutive days running.
Many experienced runners run every day, but build up to that over a long time frame.
Take care.
Hi Mandi, the 10 is the Magic number plan is quite flexible. Three runs in each 'week' that can be done in any order.
Like the c25k you can stretch the week to suit you.
If you can run somewhere safe with street lights early evening or morning on a weekday, you should be able to do the plan in winter. ( there is always the gym too)
Running on consequtive days is not a good idea and could lead to an injury.
Good luck and Happy running😊x
This is good to know thanks Jan I was just wondering if I can do the runs in any order. A bit concerned about doing 5km but think even if it takes 55 mins I may go for it... but if I feel any twinges I will walk home 😁
Hi CatMo, if you feel the 5k run is a bit of a stretch for you at the moment with niggles, pressing on with the 10k magic number plan can wait...
Ideally the 5k run is your staple run each week, one you should be comfortable with, as you will also be doing a longer one each week.
Is this problem with your knee something new?😕x
*edit, I see you are coming back from a hamstring injury, and have been resting...rather than getting back to a progressive program, if it was me I would just go steady for a bit with 30 min max. runs until I was confident all was fixed. Frustrating, but worth it... get stronger before you go longer xx
It took me months to get up to 5k, and then about another 4 until I started the 10k plan. No rush, enjoy what you can do. 😊x
Thanks Jan, yes I think you are right. My run this morning is evidence that I’m not comfortable with 5k yet. Still I was happy with 4.5 but I did a bit of walking up hills in that as didn’t want to risk any further muscle strain. It’s so helpful to have your advice , it makes me feel better. I’m sure Ju-jus plan will be good for me maybe in the new year 😁x 👍🏻
It’s not a good idea to run consecutive days during your first year of running and I sometimes found that 2 days were needed to recover. I think most working people found that it was easier to give parkrun a miss during the B210K and do their long run at weekends , then it was easier to fit in the shorter runs before or after work. If your job allows it it might be easier to run at lunch time .
You don’t have to fit all the runs into a calendar week - just fit it into your lifestyle .
Have fun
Thank you everyone really helpful - I did a nice long dog walk instead !
You don't have to do the 8 week program in 8 weeks either. I took longer because I wanted my first 10km to be my sponsored run. I got up to 9.5km then saved the 10 for the big day a week later. I could have reached 10km 2 weeks earlier, but it was more fun this way.
Have fun!
I have been really tempted to run my long run on Sundays too, as well as doing Park Run on Saturdays. It's getting hard to fit the long run in on weekday evenings, due to the dark. I really don't want to give up Park Run - I love it! The consensus seems to be that you need to be running regularly for a year though - another 3 months for me then. Will try to be patient!
